The Alvin Zhou video format for surfboards, perfection

Absolutley sick mate,, hand shapers don’t get enough recognition into how much work goes into a board.

love the artwork with the resin, this is the best looking type of artwork. people do all sorts of horrors on surf boards to give them some art but it looks bad in 98% of the cases. Here instead it looked so professional and perfect. Well done! I wonder how much complex could the artwork get if done with resin like this.. post more videos of this type if you can bro!

A very professional finish to your boards, may I ask how do you manage to keep the tape the right distance in from the rails when masking the bottom pre laminating the top of the board.

Nice video, and nice board! One question.. do you think that starting to sand with 400 is better than with 100? You maybe end up with a much stronger board?

i was wandering if it's possible to spray painting the surfboard, before putting on the las coats or the ending gloss

Nice board! I want to make my own board for the first time and I am looking into all the equipment I will need. What do you use to cut incisions for the finboxes and leash plug? Also, what kind of sanding machine do you use? Thnx!

hello 2 q's: how long do you wait between coats? is resin fully hard or just tacky? one time i mixed epoxy w/ 30min curing resin and mixed throughly then set it down to cut some cloth, and before even 5 mins the pot started smoking and it instantly hardened. do you know what can cause this? is it setting it down for too long? like it needs to be stirred or else it sets? or incorrect ratios? thank you
@CameronSardo2 жыл бұрын
1. between laminations, the resin has to fully cure so that i’m able to sand the cutlaps. between hot coats, just cured enough that i can flip the board onto that side without damaging the hot coat. 2. i’ve only worked with polyester resin rather than epoxy so i’m not sure how they differ but it sounds like there’s too much catalyst in the resin. i’m probably not the guy to ask about epoxy though
@jonnyzuma6884 Жыл бұрын
With epoxy, do not let it sit in the bucket, ever. It will get super hot, super quick. Pot life is a misnomer. It just means it will not kick for that long, but it is amplified in the bucket. More resin, more hot. Pour it all immediately after mixing. Play with it and catch it in the bucket and pour again if needed. DO NOT LET IT SIT IN THE BUCKET.

Thats the good stuff! Start to finish done proper Well done man What hardness on is the flexpad? Or whatever the sanding pad is And do you like it and that style of sanding machine?
@CameronSardo2 жыл бұрын
thank you! i can’t remember how they titled the flex on the pad but it’s pretty stiff. i find i can get more precise with the 5” rather than 8/9” sanding disk

laminating resin for the laminations and sanding resin for the hot coats and resin panels. most surfboard supply shops will have containers labeled this way

Stuff fish tanks full of fish and recorded rain on a tin roof! Is there anything more meditative then watching a surfboard built by a professional! The soothing music to helps to as opposed to some punk music (not that there is anything wrong with punk music! LOL) P.S Maybe there is a niche market there? Surboard building relaxation videos! P.P.S Puts my masking skills to shame and I thought I was allright (automotive spraypainter). My lines would look wobbly in comparison, but I would just say it is meant to be like that!
