Don't you just love the "clean cut" of those times, with them all wearing the same shirts etc! I loved the Beach Boys, this was so catchy and happy sounding, and the audience was loving it - I smiled all the way through!

One of the best of those early surfin' songs was California Girls and then the Beatles did a reply song called Back In The USSR ....... two great records !. The top tier bands in the mid to late 60s did bounce off each other a bit !

Dick Dale is credited the Beach sound. He performed in the Frankie and Annette Beach Movies.

I had this song as a young teen in the 1960s in the UK ...... Mum & Dad bought some records for me and my brother starting with Cliff Richard, then the Beatles and Stones and finally The Beach Boys. We had two Beach Boy EP's (Extended Plays) .... they each had 4 songs on and were sort of a half way house between singles and albums. After that we were old enough to buy our own records !

Hi Mark, I remember all kinds of artists from that time, I had older brothers, but people like Freddie and the Dreamers, Frank Field, Elvis, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Cliff Richard, Bill Fury Et al.

Hey Sue .. Brian Wilson actually wrote Jan and Dean's ( the couple introducing the Beach Boys here ) No.1 US hit "Surf City", although they got co-songwriting credits for adding some extra lyrics .. Murray Wilson, Brian's father ( their manager at the time ), never forgave him for giving it away, saying that it had deprived the Beach Boys of a No.1 hit for themselves.

Really, wow, that seems a little harsh to have never forgiven them. I think it might be tough having a parent as a manager. I wonder why Brian did give them a writing credit, though. Were they all friends? As always, Wayne, you have much to impart on me. I always appreciate it, my friend 😊💜

@playitagainsue As I understand it, Brian was friend's with Jam and Dean, and wanted to help them out .. They asked if they could record Surfing USA, which Brian had showed them the demo of, but the Beach Boys had already decided to record that one themeselves .. So he offered them Surf City, for which he had already written the music and some lyrics .. Apparently, Jan and Dean finished off the lyrics, which is why they got a songwriting credit on it.

Hello Sue, How good were the beach boys? The vocal harmonies are so so good. Plus, it seemed so effortless for them, however, when you listen to it the guitars and drums are fantastic - love the dancers in the background too - emulating surfing, lol, awesome! Thank you for a great vlog. Great fact about the Chuck Berry input! It peaked in the UK at 34 apparently. The Beatles were emerging big time too of course.

Great Song but all credit goes to Chuck Berry for the music TAMI show was legendary show put on in California The presenters you saw were Jan and Dean another great Surf music duo with there own amazing story ( there is a movie called Dead Mans Curve about them ) Anyway back to the show TAMI show starred Check Berry , James Brown and Rolling Stones as well as Beach Boys , Marvin Gaye , Jan and Dean and many store James Brown although not the headliner stole the show and had an incredible impact on Jagger going forward The beach boys actually bought and recorded a song penned by Charles Manson ( although they changed it , to his disapproval ) Its called Never Learn not to Love on their 20/20 album Another Irony as they say hindsight is 20/20 If you like Surf Music check out Jan and Dean They made lots of great music that people just assume are beach boys songs

Wow so many great facts, Jesse! So the Stones recorded a song originally written by Manson...that is crazy! This TAMI show sounds like it was amazing with all those fabulous acts. I will have to look for more stuff from that show. I do know Jan and Dean but I guess I didn't know what they looked like. Thanks for all that my friend...great stuff 🤗❤️

Not Stones , Beach Boys recorded a Manson song , Do you know the Jan and Dean story ? Another irony as Jan Berry crashed his car close to Dead Man Curve a few years after having hit of same name Jan survived but suffered major head injury and had long road to recovery
