Random thing but girl you inspire me so much for some reason?? Like I love seeing your progress, and the energy of your surfing videos feels so wonderful and motivating, hehe. I also love the breath training vids because I feel like, "Okay, she's putting in the WORK, I've gotta do that too." Very slay. Appreciate you! :D

I love your content and respect you sharing your journey on becoming a better surfer. I honestly wish I had the discipline to do the same cause I love surfing so much but I am so self conscious of my skill level and "mediocre" content that I have yet to make any edits. I wish you great success and hope you keep pushing out videos because you inspire the rest of us.

I always like comparing different waves at different locations. Its always interesting how ride styles change based on thickness of wave, vert, how they crash and roll. There's so many factors when riding and changing board types, it's like you practice everything just to bring it all back to your local beach.

maybe the board is a bit small. if you stay on bigger boards larger, they force you to have the technique you don't need to throw around a shortboard. definitely improving tho!

Do NOT go out as a learner to any crowded spots. Choose places where there are waves without surfers or surf with people at your level. If you see someone do an air, it’s not the spot for you to learn to stand up.

Jade Darmawangsa-what a name that just resonates with strength and spirit! Pay no mind to the naysayers. You’ve got the vision, the drive, and the grit to chase your dreams. Get into gear, train like there’s no tomorrow, and just f*cking do it. You know what you want, and that sets you miles ahead of so many others who are stuck in neutral, drifting aimlessly until they end up in Palookaville-where dreams go to die. But not you. Your video is a testament to that adventurous spirit, and your storytelling? It's real, it's raw, and it's inspiring. I’m just starting out with video and storytelling myself, and watching you only fires me up more. Keep pushing those boundaries, riding those waves, and remember, the horizon is endless for those who dare. Keep moving forward, Jade, and never, ever give up! The ocean is vast, and so are the possibilities. Ciao for now... Best, Max McByte

For people to take the time to make a whole thread about you is a positive, even though their intent is negative. Those people are using their valuable time to spend their energy on you. There's an infinite amount of things they could be spending their energy on, yet they spend it on you. Shows how much impact you have. You're important. 💯💎✨🙌🏾🏄♀

Is there any negative intent? If someone is told they're standing in a doorway and they should move, is that negative commentary? I think everyone enjoys Jade's content. That's why adding comments is a "positive" for the algo, you're right. The discussion about etiquette is important for surfers and surfing.

Ignore the haters... they clearly don’t have anything better to do. I can’t even imagine what the reddit thread would be about 😅 If it’s your surfing then that’s just dumb because the whole point of these videos is to show the journey of learning to surf and trying to grow and improve. I think it’s cool that you can actually make this your job, because until very recently, that would never have been possible, and the only way to make money from surfing would have been to actually go pro and get sponsorships that way. But the world has changed and that’s awesome that you can make your hobby your income without having to be someone who started surfing from birth and is competing on a pro tour. I don’t surf but I do like watching it and as someone who did sport for a large portion of my life, I find it really inspiring to see your hard work and dedication. Watching you helps motivate me as well, even if it’s not about surfing for me. So keep doing what you’re doing and don’t be hard on yourself. It’s more about the journey than the destination, and in sport, there will always be days when we just randomly suck for no reason even if we theoretically know what we need to do. Sometimes the body just doesn’t cooperate 😅 But keep up the good work, you’re doing awesome!

Jade, thanks for sharing your journey. I just watched some of your older videos where you talked about having so much pressure on yourself and I wanted to comment this. I think because you’ve been quick to make surfing your job, it has become linked with the pressure of a real job because let’s face it jobs have pressure. And in doing so you have missed the part of surfing after the initial learning curve where surfing gets to be soooo fun. The people on tour that surf for a living have had that “fun,” they now work extremely hard and face lots of pressure, but they also remember that feeling of fun. I’ve seen people make fun of you on Reddit for crying all the time and I feel badly because you are being so vulnerable in letting people see this, yet I think a huge part of it is because you’ve made surfing your “career” so early on in your process. I don’t exactly have a remedy, but I’m more suggesting it might not be as deep as childhood trauma and just because all jobs have some pressure and you have essentially started a job with limited experience and now have many critics, which comes with a large audience. So it’s normal to feel pressure. But surfing should be fun, after all that’s probably why you wanted to make it your job. I suggest finding a group of girls to surf with and going out with them for some sessions just for fun and not filming, don’t think about things you have to work on and just think about the gift of being in the ocean with friends.
