I knew exactly where this was when I saw the horse in the street and the break out front. This brings back good memories, surfing in the corner and over the hill in cyclone swells.

Makes this Maori homesick. Awesome vid. You know, it’s funny just how many kiwi’s havn’t surfed around there. It’s a pilgrimage of sorts that I think all kiwi surfers have to do ( especially when its pumping!!! ) at some point. The horse in the street cracked me up. Back in 2003..I took my then american wife on a Surfari around there...she says “Where’s all the cars, I havn’t seen one for 30 minutes ( we were driving ) and right then we come around a corner and there’s two kids on a horse going the other way; I said..”Kiwi traffic, busy day round here..” The White Mountains of New Hampshire are a long way from there Cuz; plenty of snow, but no surf...Aue. Great video...Haere ra.

Thanks mate for the kind comment and sharing your memory! The White Mountains look like not a bad place to be either. Its funny how these horses are all over the place, this one was especially persistent and walked right through the skatepark. Best way of transport I would say.

TANK. 44 Is there a pub nearby? I remember playing pool, drinking glass jugs of beer for less than a dollar, feeding the juke box & eating some awesome seafood after a morning session...locals were weary at first but warmed to me & my brothers by the end of the night 🚶

Greg M, there was a pub but was burned down a few years back. Still heaps of seafood though.

For me as a european surfer it`s still unimaginable to find waves like this and to not even see one soul out there!

In truth Its super crowded down here in New Zealand and the localism is heavy. Better off going to Morocco or Canary Islands mate!

Disagree! Pack up your car and start driving!! Cold water and harsh weather = less crowed

They can be a problem. They shit anywhere and love their little wet wipes which will not degrade in a thousand years. Some are ok, like the young French guy I shared two flawless mornings with at Hawai - 4 foot and sunny and 3 or 4 in the water. He was frothing --- little did he know how rare that circumstance is! I expect a boatload of Frenchies will come!
