thanks for the video and demonstrating this technique. i can 100% relate to this situation, even in 3-4ft waves i fear of nose diving. possibly due to being on shallow waters and with age being less brave and more conscious of potential injuries. this is something which is holding me back, the fear of hurting neck etc. i wonder if it is too late to exist a wave with your technique, and i get carried away then what is the next safest way to escape nose diving or basically coming off the board? even though not ideal. thanks and greetings from nz.

No one ever taught me this , I just do it when I find my position is all wrong and the wave is about to dump me over the falls or throw me off the lip into the air. Much of this comes from time spent in the water and using 360 Vision for tracking one's own position, the waves and what they are doing and that of other surfers around you.

@@SurfInsight Yesterday I did NOT throw the board . I did take the big waves (we have huge waves this week) on the stomach and literally did not let the board go broke a fin but losing the fear:)
