Peru's 5,000 year old carving are of weaved type single man boats with a paddles, sitting down to catch fish, comparable to a single man canoe. Hawaiians used canoe's to catch fish and boards to he'e nalu (wave gliding or surfing). Hawaiians were master navigator's of the vast ocean over 10,000 years ago. Of course, Polynesians invented he'e nalu.

Aloha. I appreciate your video. Very well done and great to listen to and watch. I just want to point out that there are other arguments and perspectives on the "extinction" of surfing in Hawaii. I am currently taking a surf history course at BYU-Hawaii form Isaiah Walker and he wrote a book on it called "Waves of Resistance". In his book, he highlighted how surfing did not die out among Hawaiians because of the missionaries, but was a cultural refuge for them in the midst of colonization. Highly recommended read.

Awesome job, great content !!! I started watching your channel after a chance meeting of an incredible woman surfer name Kathy, at a Tai Chi workshop no less. Somehow we brought up the subject of surfing, and she went on to tell me about how at the age of 60, she learned how to surf. Not only that, but she went on to take 3rd place in a senior woman's surf competition in Jacksonville, Florida. Incredible !!! So she kinda planted a seed in my spirit, you see I use to surf as a teenager down in Miami, Florida and somehow grew away from the sport. So now I meet this incredible woman who brings up all these wonderful memories of surfing, then desided to look on KZbin to find some pointers and found your awesome channel. I'm blown away by the simplicity of your teaching method, matched with your whole harted love for the sport. If I could of had this info back in my teens, I would never of left the sport behind. So I don't know if this is a sign from God (lol), me finding the two of you. But the real kick in the ass is that the weekend of the workshop, (Oct. 6th-7th 2018) I had just turned 60 myself. W-H-A-T !!!! LOL !!! Peace and blessings to you and yours, keep up the great work, and I hope to see you on the beach someday. Best of luck, Bob Franz, (" Hound Dog" Franz),Ocala, Florida.
