It's one of those places where if you've never been there, in the water at Pipe or anywhere nearby on the North shore, you cannot understand the power of the water moving around. For reference, I grew up surfing in So. Cal for past 20 years. From Steamer Lane to Blacks in double overhead days and I have NEVER....EVER felt the power of the ocean like I did in just 30 minutes at Pipe...and it was only head high! I was humbled like a new grom again. Soooo much respect to those who can surf and survive it.

Hawaii in general, not with the power but just the ocean humbling people.

Yup! When get high surf plenty water is moving! The trick to surfing it is to take advantage of those channels when you paddle back out. And any wave over 8 feet... Only certain people can duckdive that.

❤ wow. excellent, thorough, and concise. as if first reef is not intimidating enough to handle double to triple overhead, second and third reef sound terrifying, although probably really exhilarating for those daring and undeterred by that dag nam reef :)

sounds like good stuff, but ENUNCIATION! is lacking. too fast overlapping words and shlurrring pronunciation +adding sh(s) to s- words. MEANTVTO BE CONSTRUCTIVE TO GET MORE LISTENING esp. to newbies to analytical explanations. at least a littl slower w time gaps to absorb new understandings. hope u change itcand it gets u more listeners. looks like good stuff but audio "mechanics" make it difficult to get. ok

I would say that the section reef the biggest swells break on first would be considered first reef making the section closest to shore third or fourth reef if you count the outer shoal. Would love to hear what the locals think!

Don't mind me, I'm just pretending I understand any of this lol fascinating stuff though, wish I had the balls big wave surfers do. Drowning doesn't scare me really but deep ocean water in shark territory terrifies me even when I'm on a boat lol

Jonathan, work on your vocal delivery pacing and pronunciation. Or hire a professional to deliver this. This is informative but it comes across as rushed, with run-on sentences and every other word is mispronounced due to being rushed.

Pipeline real wave height 15'...locals say it's 2-3 ft????
@lukereynolds966 жыл бұрын
i know this is a long time ago but Hawaiians talk about face height, not full wave height
@hawaiianitedivah5 жыл бұрын
15'ft face. Hawaiian scale would be 7'ft - 8'ft back.
