There's also a step you missed while cleaning the bearings. after drying them from the alcohol with a towel, you should leave them to dry even more under sunlight & or a fan for some hours, or use a hair dryer.

You can stack speed ring/bearing/spacer/bearing on your axle, press the wheel onto the first bearing, turn it around and press it onto the other bearing and then just put your speed ring and nut on.

Jack, with as good of a rider as you are, I would be very curious to get your take on the Soulboardiy: soulboardiy.com/revolution/ The Meraki is my favorite for how I ride. But man, you rock that Smoothstar.
@robsonrobson49993 жыл бұрын
The YOW ball bearings in the video are generic 51100 axial bearings you could even find on amazon. They do break. I suppose they brake earlier if you do overthighten the kingpin of your YOW adapter. But if you don' t tighten it enough the nut comes loose and the two plates start scratching against each other.

Cleaning bearings is a pain. I just buy new ones when the time comes. Also, bearings can become damaged when pressed into the wheels by the inner ring. They are supposed to be pressed in by the outer ring. However, there are almost no tools available to do this! Seems like there should be a permanently sealed bearing where no contaminats can enter. Also, you can use silicone spray lubricant on urethane (pivot cups or bushings) instead of wax. Silicone does not damage urethane and Its much easier to use. I use the WD-40 water proof formula for extra durability.

Thank you, useful info. I stripped my new Yow Malibu and found a missing spacer in one wheel and two wheels had 2 speedrings, one wheel had 1 and another had none. Plus zero grease in the truck. All easily sorted, but poor QC.

I really enjoying learning something new in each of your videos and it is interesting to see how you have taken steps to customize your ride. Could yo tell me what makes the Soulboardiy deck different to the other ones you have.
@SurfskateLove3 жыл бұрын
Start be reading what they say about it (because there's honestly a lot of technical stuff I don't even understand): soulboardiy.com/revolution/ But for me personally, what I like about it: 1. The size is my perfect specs. 34" long with a 19 1/3" wheelbase (at the widest, can be adjusted to 17"). 2. The shape, with the good width where your feet go, give you a perfect fit. 3. The concave is just perfect. Not too much like the Smoothstar, but far more than the flat YOWs. Fits your feet like a glove. 4. It is far more responsive than any other deck I've ever tried. It's like its a living, breathing part of your experience, rather than a dead board on your feet. 5. It encourages and incentivizes good form and performance riding. It moves and flows with you. It puts you in the right positions for lean into turns. I'll be doing a review of it soon.

How to place the ball bearings correctly on the rod of the cleaning bottle: One spacer, one bearing, one spacer, one bearing etc., this allows the cleaner to better penetrate the bearings. As shown in the video, this does not work properly because the inner bearings hardly get any cleaner if all the bearings sit as one block.

Hey Steve, you just have to piece it all together. I'm not sure what you have in mind, but there's not realy any one-stop shop for surfskate customizing that I'm aware of.
@PNBUNNII3 жыл бұрын
I do not recommend using IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to clean the rubber bearing cap due to the chemical properties. Exposing rubber to IPA infrequently can cause discoloration and deterioration. IPA will wear down and eventually destroy it. You can clean the rubber cap with dishwashing liquid and water, then let it dry before putting it back together. 😁

Hi, thanks for the video! Is the Carver CX a lot easier to maintain than the Slide truck (3.0)? I am a total beginner and I hesitate between a Slide in the 30-31'' range (for example Gussie) and a Carver CX in the same range. Should I take the maintenance factor into account when choosing a board?

Yes, you should, and yes the CX is easier to maintain and will definitely last you longer.

Awesome video, no more squeaks! Thanks Steve! Just wondering how tight the bushings should be on a yow meraki? I reassembled them and it was a bit looser, rides like a charm but worried they might be too lose, how do I know? Thanks!
@SurfskateLove3 жыл бұрын
That's just personal preference. Obviously, the looser they are, the more flexibility and lean you get, which is what I like. So I loosen mine to where the nut is flush with the top of the bolt. Just something to play around with and find your personal sweet spot.
