I have no clue what's going on but this animation is fantastic. The characters face is menacing and intimidating but the oddly wholesome intrigue with the zapping of the rings makes it only come off as harmlessly mischievous in the most delightful way. I absolutely love it.

Surge is a character in IDWs Sonic comics. She's currently got her own miniseries called Impostor Syndrome. I recommend reading it, you can find it free on youtube

Surge is a cyborg tenrec created by Dr. Starline (the guy in the bed) as a counter to Sonic, along with Kitsunami the Fennec (the little guy watching) being a counter to Tails. Surge has Sonic's speed and attitude, but without the niceness and without holding anything back. In addition, she has electric powers to trigger Tails' fear of lightning. Kitsunami (Kit for short) is her sidekick, just as Tails is to Sonic, and he has control over water in the form of multiple tails made of it, perfect for Sonic's fear of water. Starline made Surge and Kit the way they are in order to defeat Sonic and prove himself superior to Eggman. Starline also made both Surge and Kit very susceptible to his hypnosis, which he used to brainwash Surge into hating Sonic and Kit into being blindly loyal to Surge. However, due to Surge having Sonic's attitude, she's very rebellious and often goes out of her way to annoy, hinder or outright disobey Starline, forcing him to hypnotize her into obedience for a while. In this video, we see Surge using her lightning powers to keep Starline from sleeping while Kit looks on in awe.

Honestly, I hope there's a redemption arc in the comics for Surge and Kit where they find out who they really were before Dr Starline showed up, then Surge uses the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Surge or whatever, and destroy the Warp Topaz, thereby releasing the two from Dr Starline's control, then the Chaos Emeralds restore the tenrec and fennec's original forms, and they join the Resistance, and then maybe, just bringing this possibly unpopular idea out there, but maybe Infinite and Buddy (or even a group of characters based on the avatar) will return and we'll get some sort of final battle between Infinite, Sonic, Shadow, Silver, Tangle, Surge and the rest of the Resistance, and Eggman will be there, maybe? Just throwing in my two cents for the guys at IDW Publishing in case they want to make a good finale for that arc in the series whenever that time comes.
