Surgery Time, Watercolor Palette Planning, and Copic Markers- Art Studio Art Vlog

Surgery is only days away for me, and this is my goodbye for awhile! I have planned, pre-filmed videos going up during recovery, for a few weeks at least! Hopefully, things go smoothly and I will be back with you all in no time! Our art studio vlog (art chat) this week, is all about getting ready for surgery, planning a new watercolor palette, doing some watercolor painting, Copic markers, making stickers and prints, and other fun things! Praying for you. I have Sjogrens, MCAD, and Celiac Disease so can relate to autoimmune issues with surgeries and procedures. Stay positive! It helps your immune system. Stress produces more cortisol that plays havoc with your system. Hope you have a successful surgery. My best friend had both shoulders done and recovered well.

I'm praying for you on your surgery and recovery. And as far as ink pens go I strongly suggest getting one or two different sizes if you prefer different sizes but definitely at least one fountain pen and a good pigment ink. I do not use a drawing nib I use a fine nib and I absolutely love the results that I get for pen and ink sketches and watercolor washes. When I work on good quality watercolor paper most of my work is done in very extensive photorealistic colored pencil work. My very favorite paper for doing so is fabriano artistico hot press 300 GSM. I have also heard that that is fabulous for watercolor and pen and ink, although I have not yet tried that on that paper because I have a very limited supply 😊

Good luck with your surgery. I had a similar surgery exactly one year ago. I had one muscle torn all the way through and the tendon retracted. A second muscle was torn half way through. Luckily, my surgery was able to be done laparoscopicly, as a day surgery. I had them give me a local block, as well as a general anaesthetic. This was fantastic for post op pain control. I also used the shoulder, compression ice machine post-op. Helpful. I was in a sling, immobilized for 8 weeks because he re-attached the tendon and he wanted to make sure that “stuck”. I then did rehab physio twice a week for 4 months. Exercises twice a day. It was hard work (the one armed life is hard) and the exercises were tough. A year later, I have 100% range of motion, still working on strength. I was a long haul but totally worth it. By the way, I’m 70 and live alone, so I’m sure you will bounce back just fine. You’ll be OK! ❤️🇨🇦

Was in an auto accident in 1996 which culminated in cervical spinal surgery in 1999. Diagnosed with stage 3b kidney disease in 2004 from systemic lupus. I was diagnosed with myelomylacia of cervical spine and stage 5 kidney disease 6 months ago. I will be praying for you every day. Hugs.

I hope you have a very speedy and uneventful recovery! Mr. Iceman is your best friend post-surgery. My icemaker couldn't keep up with my ice needs because the container on my mine wasn't insulated. It was a borrowed machine and a few years old. Maybe they've changed since but if not, you might want to keep a couple of bags of ice in your freezer if you have space. Your freezer sounds pretty full of food tho! Hugs and the biggest well wishes your way. You will be safely home and miserable feeling before you know it LOL...but seriously, the ice REALLY helps - as do the pain meds no matter how much you might hate taking them. This is not a time to be stoic. OMG. I am so sorry for all the lectures! I just really understand the anxiety and the fears you are going through right now. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly. You will get through this no matter what. See you on the other side, shoulder buddy!

Hi, Amy, just found you this week and am sad to hear about your issues. I too have been through this when I was 72. I have 3 autoimmune diseases plus a variety of other rare things like dysautonomia. Right as the pandemic started I went in for what my surgeon thought was a rotator cuff tear, but when he went in he found not only the rotator cuff tear, but also biceps tear and shredded acromium and part of my collarbone infringing into the shoulder joint. Even with all that and my health issues the surgery went fine, so i think you can be very hopeful. I will be thinking about you all this week. Mine was my dominant arm so the healing was a process. For me the worst pain was the physical therapy because my surgeon believed in starting the day after surgery!! Like others have said stay on top of the pain with meds and cooling packs in your sling. Bless you, sweetheart, you seem like a fighter and you will get through this.❤❤❤

Sending you much love and healing in your surgery and recovery! I had a plate and screws in my wrist last May when I broke it. Dominant arm. It was not fun at all. I would take your painkillers round the clock to keep ahead of the pain. Hope to see you again as soon as you're healed

Amy, I do a lot of thinking when I am in recovery mode. I have completely stopped working with Dan Smith products. I have found DaVinci Paints of California a better company and their paints are so wonderful and reasonably priced too! I hope your recovery goes better than expected! I hope you try DaVinci watercolor paint and decide what you want to spend your money on. One little thing, I know quite a few amputee people, I think you truly don’t know what you can accomplish until you see a fellow artist create without an arm or eye, well you get the point. Please do not overdo or jeopardize your recovery!!! Ok, good luck now be WELL!

Best of luck with surgery and recovery. Mine was on my dominant arm. 🤦‍♀️. Follow doc orders and you’ll have a great recovery. One of the best things I invested in was a pregnancy pillow, it gave great support while sleeping.

Hi Amy, Good luck with your surgery, try not to stress too much, it will all work out. I went through shoulder surgery a few years back. My doctor recommeded that I see an athletic therapist instead of a physiotherapist when the brace came off and I did. There were 3 other ladies with the same surgery at the time of my therapy and at the end of it I was the only one with a full range of motion again. Might of just been a coincedence but my athletic therapist seemed to do different treatments.

I had my bicep tear off the bone in my shoulder...no idea why until last year.. I too have an auto immune problem as well as hypermobility ... please please when they tell you to take you're pain medication don't delay. My anesthetist told me before I went in they will put my arm to sleep while I'm under..much like the dentist does.. but as soon as I feel warmth coming back to call the nurses for medication as it's very important to stay ahead of the pain and keep ahead of it for the 1st 2 weeks .... I was scared as well but you will breeze through it... Good luck... I'm here if you ever need a chat... I'm in Australia so I should be up if you can't sleep ... Lisa x

You will be missed but your healing is very important. I had a Slap 3 tear and needed surgery of my non dominant side. They say it is the worst injury to have. It took many many months of recovery and PT but now it feels so much better. The worst is at the beginning and then it gets better after that. Now it’s several years later and I need surgery of my dominant side, happening in April. So I understand what you’re going through. I’ll keep you in my prayers for a quick recovery and healing.

OMG, I just noticed you're over 8k! 👏👏👏 I hope the surgery goes well. I know recovery sucks, but it's just a bump in the road. I was so scared to have my hysterectomy I almost canceled twice. The surgery itself was a breeze. I was scared for nothing. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts Amy, but I know you'll make it through this just fine.❤

Yep! I Crossed it 2 nights ago! It's so exciting! Last year(my first year) i got 7,000, so this year I'm hoping to get to 15,000! That would be awesome! And I feel exactly how you felt. I nearly canceled last week. Good to know I'm not the only one who felt that way! Thanks for the encouragement, Tara-lee!

I'm sorry there will be multiple comments for this 😅. I am only blessed enough to have three Daniel Smith watercolors I have 14 of the sonnets which are apparently hard to find now and I am hoping and praying to get some more Daniel Smith and my collection of m Graham that I am so desperate to have. There is only one scenario that I really think I would have to have and I've not much looked at more than that of theirs because of the cost. I love honey watercolors and they work very well for me because I live in Phoenix Arizona.
