I have those tires on my Motobecan, traction is fantastic especially steep uphill loose gravel. Drive fast, take chances!

Yeah I have been really happy with them from a traction and durability standpoint, in snow and in high mountain rocky terrain! No problems with them setup tubeless either even at low pressures. They roll decent enough as well. Thanks for watching!!

Thanks for watching! It is a great bike and continues to impress me even three years in. As for frame protection, it’s a bit tricky as I can never find the same one twice it seems on Amazon. They are all similar, you want what is often called helicopter tape, and just want to make sure the one you buy can be removed clean if you decide to do so in the future. I always use the completely clear stuff too. Search around for “bike frame protection” or “helicopter tape”

I am 5’11”. Yes the bike is a large, feels really good to me. My 2014 Pugsley is a medium, it works well too, but I prefer the large. There is overlap in Surly’s sizing, at least between medium and large. It’s not as upright geometry as the Pugs, but it’s not very aggressive trail geo either, so yes it’s a comfortable bike to ride leisurely, but still has enough geo to work the trails and descend at speed. Your subscriber from the Basque Country here. I particularly likes the video of the 20% steep climb. I was wondering how much would it cost to convert it to 29x3. I thought of buying the frameset and putting 29x3 wheels to have crazy clearance for mud which is a massive issue here.

Thanks for watching! It would require having a wheelset made probably, so that would be kinda pricey, but it’s been done and the bike can accommodate a 29x3 setup! I actually might do it one my Salsa Beargrease for next summer, and keep the ICT for the more aggressive terrain!

I’m really stuck between an ict and a Trek Carbon Farley 9.8 does steel actually ride smoother ?

Grant Warren I’ll be honest, with the tires this big any subtleties of steel riding smoother will be a non factor. I have a carbon Salsa Beargrease (also 27.5” like the Farley), I can tell you the carbon bike pedals better than the ICT, and is obviously lighter too, but something about the ICT that I still love. It has a feeling of durability and I don’t worry about banging it around in the mountains, where as the carbon is always in the back of my mind. It will depend on what you’re looking for out of the bike, but the steel ICT and the carbon frame bikes are both great, just different.

Elevation Every Weekend I keep looping back to the ict it just seems like something that would be tough as hell and I probably would never have that shoot what if I crack the frame in my mind. I honestly just bomb around trails, I have a Devinci minus right now but wanted something a little more trail friendly the minus seems more of just a snow bike

Grant Warren I absolutely agree on the ICT toughness and trail worthiness. I have some other vids showing what it can do. I see it as a long time (life long?) fatbike. I feel like the carbon bikes, while great performers, will come and go. If the steel frame ever does crack, it can be welded and put back in action. I have a 2014 Surly Pugs too and while the drivetrain and brakes are a little outdated, the bike itself is still fantastic after 6 years.

Hey Tommy. I went back to this video from a while ago to comment. I believe the 2020 bike comes with a Volt saddle. I bought my ICT this year (2023). It comes with a Selle Italia saddle. I don’t know if you are familiar with this saddle, but I find it very uncomfortable. Do you have any suggestions?

Yeah, my 2020 had the Volt 142 I believe. It’s a decent saddle, but I don’t have it on any longer. Saddles are tough because they are so user specific. Believe it or not, the Borealis branded saddle I have on my Flume is very good, they have told me they will sell these to people too, so you could look into that. I am 5’11” with about a 33” inseam. The Large is good for me. My Pugsley is a Med and it still fits well, but I prefer the large, especially on a bike I am riding more aggressively. Thanks for stopping by!!

Aaron Mack You’ll love it! Surly’s bike sizing overlaps a good amount so I think you’ll be good. You can always adjust with stem and handlebar length if you feel too stretched out up top. It works well for me stock components!
