I still have like a can or two of this stuff (1978) on clips unopened, but I did just buy some of that Greek surplus for really cheap thanks to your review!

I wish I could remember the source but I read these rounds were made for the syrian army in the 1970s who still had some mausers in service for rear guard soldiers. Romania was a military supplier for them for other arms and munitions as well. Maybe a place to start if you want to go down that rabbit hole..

I've often wondered who these were made for. The cases are 1mm short & they're kind of loaded on the mild side.

Yeah i really wondered why romania produced 8mm mauser (im from romania myself)

Thanks for all the testing and info! I have two factory 22 spam cans that are dated 1978. Headstamps, lot #, & powder lot # are all dated 1978. LMK if you want a couple 20-rd boxes to test.

Good stuff as always. I like this series. With the recent imports of the Portuguese M937s I find myself with more 8mm than ever before and it's been fun shooting it more often. Keep up the good work!

The big issue with the Romanian stuff is the carbon ring that forms Causes feeding issues with standard 8mm mauser Look it up!

Ceausescu was a genius! He made all this shit for export in the 70’s and we’re somehow still swimming in it.

I always assumed this ammo was made for MG42s they had lying around. I think they kept those in service up until and even after they adopted the PK/PKM But that wouldn’t really explain the ammo that comes on clips

If my rifle is stamped 8x57 dmw 88 does it shoot .318 or .323?
@8mmmauserman10 ай бұрын
I don’t know. Probably the earlier M88 spec, but I can’t know without seeing the rifle
@factorybear52644 ай бұрын
7:27 that’s a good theory, but it was instead made specifically for export. Ceausescu was obsessed with paying off all of Romania’s foreign debt which was seen as irrational because he pushed to export as much stuff as possible while importing as little as possible, and therefore having Romanians suffer because of it. His plan came to fruition by 1989 and Romania had become completely debt free. And with that achievement came the looting class of vermin who activated/organized the revolution in December 89 leading to his mock kangaroo trial and execution. On Christmas Day. Literally. In a Christian country. Who tf ordered that? I think we can all guess who. Once the great looting began, more debt began as the new leadership/mafia was selling everything off that Ceausescu worked to build. First shit to go was the ammo warehouses, hence why someone in the comments remembers buying this stuff at 35 bucks a crate, or two spam cans worth. That was probably in the very early 90’s if someone can confirm.

interesting...

Romania's arms industry is renowned for making poor quality guns & ammo. Having quite a bit of both, I can concur. I'm glad I got the Romanian 8mm when it was around $35 crate. 🤠
@factorybear52644 ай бұрын
When exactly was that if you can recall? Was it in the very early 90’s that you were paying 35 bucks a crate? Thanks in advance. A rough guess is enough. Early to mid 90’s?
