I went to the range yesterday, 10-18-2024. to fire my G43 for the first time, I was using the same lot of ammo that you were using. I had installed a firing kit in the G43 to lower the gas pressure. I fired one round and it ejected fine. I next loaded two rounds and it fired the first and chambered the third, The third round fired, but failed to extract. I removed it with a cleaning rod and mallet. I'm not sure about this ammo. I have some modern commercial 8x57 on order and will try that.

It's also a good idea to replace both the firing pin & spring on any well-used Mauser or Enfield. Not that it'll solve a dead primer issue, but it resolves a lot of 2nd strikes.

Good informative video. I just got about 400 rounds of this stuff. All would go off in my Yugo M48, however out of the 30 I shot so far, 10 were very noticeable hang-fires, 10 had a barely precept-able hang, and the final 10 felt normal. Before I shot the Egyptian I sighted in a scope on my M48 for my reloads. I was getting a softball sized group at 200 yards. Switched to this ammo and was hitting a solid 4 feet high. No exaggeration. Target is about a 3 feet tall steel gong, and was aiming over 1 target low. I thought my reloads were light before, but not 4 feet light at 200 yards. Time to get a chrono I guess.

A lot of Egyptian 8mm came into the US back in the 90s from Israel. Dirty. A lot of dead primers. I'm assuming this ammo was stored in the heat for 40+ years. But, it was cheap back then. 10 cents a round. Was worth it just to get the projectiles to reload.

I had hang fires before pretty bad on some 1953 hugo heavy ball. With my mauser it would constantly hang fire. I have yet to have one though in my hakim I just dont think the springs are as strong in mauser rifles.

Interesting. I don’t think it’s a spring issue for me, but I’ve heard lots of people tell me that a Wolff spring would make all of the ammo problems go away. I’ll get one some day, but the Yugo rifles don’t take them.

Dude ! those hang fires mixed with the FTF. LoL. I can only imagine how U felt. Anyway in your humble opinion what is the best & worst surplus 8mm Mauser ammo you've tested thus far ? & what do U suggest for surplus ammo for a Hakim rifle ? Although I may just stay with PPU for my Hakim !
@8mmmauserman
@8mmmauserman 3 жыл бұрын
For the Hakim, I personally would stick with nn-corrosive PPU like you said. I've been really happy with 70's Yugo surplus (Made in the same factory as modern PPU, but it IS corrosive) and Romanian ammo from the 70's-80's.

@@8mmmauserman then, what is the worst 8mm Mauser ammo you've tried at least so far ? I know theirs a lot of factors that go into all these surplus ammos, like u said in one of your videos, but it sounds like the Egyptian & Ethiopian ammo was Purdy bad ! If I ever manage to get cool old ammo with foreign language (arabic/turkish) head stamps I'll just keep it as a collectors item, and not shoot it ! keep up the good work, ur making great videos !

Give wolff 22 lbs spring a try that may be an issue I've shot about 150 all do fire but I do get minor hang fires

Yeah, I’ve been wanting to buy one of those. My spring is pretty strong. I’ve also seen quite a bit of variation in the quality of the ammo.

@8mmmauserman that sucks, I got about 350 rounds along with a rifle I purchased and was hoping they'd be reloadable, but I kinda figured that'd probably be the case.

My Firing pin string is plenty strong, as I’ve had no problems with better ammo. One of the deals with Surplus ammo is that different stocks have been stored in different settings. I’m looking into getting a Wolff spring, but they don’t fit the Yugo Mausers, so it would need to be modified.

We also have had good luck with Egyptian 8mm but ours didn't come off line outdoor limited and the few other companies that sold this a few mounths back got this from century int and most people have also got bad results the Egyptian imported before seems to been good quality a new fireing pin spring might help some but not completely good video

Thanks! Storage condition plays a pretty big role with this ammo. My firing pin spring is really stiff, so I don’t think that’s the issue.

I'm getting to your comments late as you commented so many that some were tagged as spam (KZbin can be weird sometimes). A lot of this is up to storage conditions, and this ammo seems to have been stored in very poor conditions.

No doubt ammo in more prestine condition would work better, so when I find it I’ll definitely review it. It seems that this ammo has not aged well, even though it seems the original standard of manufacture is high.
