It's good to see Mur again. Your Dad is a great guy Dan and I hope to see him more often. On a side note the door/window crank handle clip removal part of this video was very painful to watch. I worked in auto salvage for 20yrs and we never used a door clip tool (or a cut off wheel) to take off GM door and window crank handles. Slide a shop rag behind the handle, move or turn the handle while holding the rag stationary, and the clip will pop right off. The shop rag method accomplishes 2 things: 1. The rag grabs and traps the clip so it doesn't fly off and end up in Narnia, 2. It protects the door panel (if it's still any good) from getting damaged. Best part is it don't cost a dime. A piece of cloth, a rag, and old sock, or a towel will do the same thing for $0.00.

Header tip. Use a steat doughnut gasket instead of a collector gasket and it want leak and give you adjustment on your pipe. I hate collector gaskets
@larrydixon-vi7ld2 ай бұрын
Watching you weld on those fenderwell headers takes me back to 1966 , i was 5 , dad worked at A&B muffler and custom shop in FtWorth, Texas, they built fenderwell headers for tri5s from scratch, used 2" tubes and 4" collectors , single bolt header caps pointed to the ground, exhaust pipes were welded to the side of collectors, it took less than a minute to uncap both sides , they sounded so good uncapped

Older than Dad, lol, GM door crank handles... to reassemble. The spring clips are preassembled on the cranks with a touch of grease. Roll windows up, position the crank as desired. Push on crank over beveled shaft. Till clicks.

Hahaha, I had to laugh at that MIA window crank clip tool. I even have one of those things, and I haven't owned a Chevy for probably 25 years. Good to see Mur, again. Car is really shaping up. If you're going to spend $180 for a trunk floor mat, then you can splurge on some original pattern seat upholstery. Growing up, I was with my dad when he bought a new '57 Chev wagon. They opted for those waffle pattern vinyl seat covers that used to be popular. Those oem seat covers were virgin underneath the clear vinyl. The original material had those cool, shiny, mylar(?) threads woven into the fabric panels.

I mostly do things the Mur way. I started working on cars seriously in 1975. I like doing thing right and not making a mess. Making a mess once in a great while is unavoidable, but when it happens, I stop and deal with it. I can't imagine laying under a car in a puddle of oil or transmission fluid. I've been living in the same house for 30 years, and there are no oil spots on my driveway. I get 4'x8'x1/8" sheets of hardboard to cover the driveway if I need to work on a car in it. One thing I don't do, as far as door panels go, is try to reinstall that crappy plastic "vapor barrier". Here in HOT, DRY, Arizona, it's completely unnecessary. Since Mur did such a great job on the front door panels, I'm hoping you are going to leave it as a 4 door. With a carbureted V8, even if it is a 305, a nice sounding exhaust, and those Cragar S/S wheels (I've had a lifelong love affair with those) it's a really cool looking car just the way it is.
