I use to wheel my liberty all the time on some crazy trails. they are great fun, and can do way more than you expect. Mine was 2.5" lift, 31s. Had rear locker. I drove my vertical up a 1.5story granite rock face. i've got pics of mine on boulders where front is on ground, rear is up and hte rockers are as high as me (5'10") from ground. The shorter wheel base was great, for tighter areas. Don't under estimate a liberty! I'm kinda a fan of them.

The plug that's hanging out of a front is the engine block heater... It's part of a cold weather package probably.... Like if you lived in Alaska... My Cherokee Trailhawk has the same thing... I actually hit a bump off-roading and it flew out and it hit my fan because somebody didn't tie it back correctly... Make sure you zip tie that thing...

I welded the rear diff on my '82 Datsun nearly 15 years ago and it did great. Lincoln lockers for the cheap win! It was daily driven and driven to (and from) every outing. Party bonus, it'll drift everywhere in the rain. Plan for it and you'll do well.

I purchased a KJ in 2001 as my first "Jeep". We had a BLAST with it. Did Moab with it and a bunch of places in the Dallas region. held on to it for 17 years.

The Jeep Liberty is a surprisingly good Jeep when they're taken care of. Not sure how those clapped ones will do but I bet the clean ones hold up well. They're more capable than people give them credit for. I also know them inside and out. I volunteer and will drag my wife, Brittany, along. 😂

Pls go for 235/85 R16 Tires. Thats such a great,great size for light vehicles. You wont regret it! Pls do it! I think BFG is bringing the KO2, KO3 or KM3 out in this size.

I wheeled a KJ for years. I think they’ll be surprised how capable they are. A true low gear and short wheelbase is a great starting point.

I also did too. The turning radius is also amazing. Much more tighter than my JK. You need to be careful with that aluminum front differential in the KJ. It is pretty easy to break.

For the red lifted KJ, look into the vacuum lines that control the directional flow of the air. Likely either a line is falling apart or is pinched and therefore the system "knows" the vacuum is not working right, so it defaults to windshield defrost for safety reasons. My XJ works the same way and it started to default to windshield defrost and after I took my dash apart, checked the vacuum of all the lines, found nothing wrong, put everything back as normal, it began to work properly again.

I had an 04 liberty renegade on 31’s. Was a fun little Jeep. Factory sliders, skid plates and light bar. Was fantastic in the snow, but never took it off road. We now have a 19 Sahara on 33’s and it still surprises us how far it can take us with just a small leveling it lol.

They are a lot more reliable than you give them credit. I have 1 with 305K miles until I broke a radiator hose and overheated it. Other than water pump, alternator, steering pump and fuel pump, nothing else has broken. Normal stuff that might wear out after 305K miles.

This was great, so having burned through two of these in my Jeep life, one thing that's weird is the linkage from the shifter to the transfer case is a nylon washer, when it gets worn out it'll let the linkage completely disconnect and then you're only one wheel drive. You can just reach up from underneath and put it back on but, yeah just beware of that lol. As always have fun!

Sounds like a blast. You might wish to consider, after fixing the liberties up (somewhat), to sell them to the teams for $5,000 a piece, which will help cover the cost of the event, and possibly avoid allot of problems. I would also allow the teams to make modifications to the jeeps as long as such modifications, doesn't change the effectiveness of the jeeps performance. So maybe a team might wish to put in a awesome sound system, a radical paint design (advertising), racks, etc. There may be other restrictions You may wish to put in place. I can also think of several different awards that can be offered during the event. Can't wait to see the outcome.
