It IS a professional recording. It’s always been a professional recording. She is a brilliant lip syncer, probably the best in the world as long as the tape doesn’t mess up. Even her “improvised” stuff is pre-corded and well rehearsed. Try to find a raw live recording of Mariah Carey that sounds as real as Whitney, Kelly Clarkson, ANYONE. You won’t. She has someone else’s voice dubbed in. That’s why in this video she turns her back to the camera when she starts singing the difficult part. There are no recordings of Mariah Carey since day one that is actually her singing the whole song. She’s a very successful Milli Vanilli. Now go watch Whitney live. Listen to her tone. Watch her mouth and throat. Then go watch Mariah. The tone always sounds recorded because it is.

@chrisanthemum711 жыл бұрын
***** nah, that ain't autotune. There's none of that electric feedbacky sound that lets you know it's autotune. Even if it was, who just has that combination of melody just come out of their mouth while they shake their head softly and not even a furrowed brow?? It's just beastly, so don't hate.
@mrbelieve12311 жыл бұрын
***** Hey, I was wondering if something was tweaked here. If you see her performance of "The Art of Letting Go" she did prior her voice didn't sound as full on this. Also I realized at the end that it was edited when she's saying "I'm exhausted its just for laughs" "imma leave here before i go to far". Anyone have an opinion? BTW I love me some MIMI, so no disrespect.
@svichky10 жыл бұрын
it's not autotune, it's just that she has so much flexibility that her voice can with great speed transit from one note to the other, causing that autotune effect. i speak from personal experience, being a singer myself. doing scales is the best thing for practicing agility, and when you start being really good at it and reach certain advanced level, your voice just floats and overall gains immense stretchy quality to it, that for the effect has an amazing ease while executing runs, thrills, melismas. and mariah's voice has always been known for being very agile.
@sammypuro939210 жыл бұрын
svichky Not trying to hate, but the truth is light performance auto-tune is being used here. There is a difference between being able to do amazing melisma's and using a slight touch of auto-tune to make it sound even slicker. It's okay though because auto-tune is good when it's used by already good singers like Mariah.
@sammypuro939210 жыл бұрын
***** Lol, okay clam down. I don't really mind her using it nowadays since she's had a career spanning 15 years. It's hard to always sound great and I think at this point she just wants to take it easy and have fun with it.

i come back to this video a few times a year and every single time it gets me. mariah is not just an incredible vocalist, as she continues to prove time and time again. she is a true MUSICIAN. perhaps the greatest of our generation. it takes a true musical gift to be able to ad lib these notes and these key shifts and these runs. for example, what she does at 2:40 is beyond words. it's subtle and if you're not musically trained or really paying attention, you'd miss it. but within about 2 seconds, she is able to find both the key and the starting note of a completely different song and modulate it to the key that big jim is playing on the piano. her ear and her vocal control is absolutely awesome. she has truly been blessed, and the fact that we get to witness her raw gift in this video is something i'll cherish forever. thank you so much, mimi. you bring me to tears.

Her best live performances are CLEARLY when she is relaxed. This was stunning. Yes her vocals aren’t as reliable as they were when she was younger but I think a lot of her vocal mishaps are actually due to nerves, caused because her voice can be unreliable and her songs require superhuman control/range/agility.

Someone finally said it. Her instrument has always been fragile due to nodules, but when she's in a comfortable space, she still sings well. Wonderful, you can still feel that she tries to go to her old register 3:28. It must be hard for her to think " i used to hit those notes" she skipped it brilliantly with that whistle note, but I like when she risks it an when she sounds this good
@pennydimedime10 жыл бұрын
She invented that register, it aint no register if she can't hit it anymore!! LET IT GOOOOOOoOOO
@FFSnotagain10 жыл бұрын
pennydimedime that's why I said her old register, she did have it, you guys sometimes don't have a clue of how difficult must be for a singer like Mariah or someone with that kind of rare talent to feel that due to their efforts they've spent most of what they had. It's really unfair how the world has become so cruel with their talents. Nothing lasts forever and unique talent only shines for a short period of time but her register was there, no matter what you say, doesn't mean she has to deny her actual situation but these kind of people deserve some respect for setting up the standard so high they cannot even reach it anymore. The same happen to artists like Maria Callas, and she died in depression feeling she would always be a shadow of herself. There's nothing tougher for an artist than being defeated by their own past, that's the real dark side of pure artistry.

what are you on about, she clearly wanted to segue into a whistle note so i'm not sure what your on about, if you think she was thinking I could have belted that note then you are just being silly the timing of the song doesn't allow for that, if she could have she would have,but she didn't and she executed the performance incredibly being impromptu.....do you really think she has time to sit around and ponder whether she can hit a note or not even though she put all her effort into doing crossover from pop everyday classic Mariah ballad-like to contemporary R & B extraordinaire of course her voice changed as did her style as did her music and obviously as did her old ass fans like you.

My personal description of The Song Bird Supreme's voice today is first a roaring lower register with GREAT resonance, resonance she lacked in the 90's, even in her prime (94-96). Her mid range voice is weaker yes, but i cant quite explain it some days it's weak yet strong enough to compliment the song or some days it can be strong, thick and raspy which creates great emotion. Her mid-range is most likely where her nodules lie. Her upper register is shrill, more of an effort but if you're a real mimi fan you applaud her for her risk she takes in this range, right when you think shes gonna crack.. she doesn't its amazing. THE MONEY of her voice is not whistle anymore its her falsetto which she has developed so well over the years. Her falsetto has a unique airy tone that can create complex melisma, its absolutely mind blowing those runs she can do. And Finally her whistle, she has better control over it now, but i dont think its anything special as it was in the 90's. Yet i do find it more precise than ever, and does have the signature "ring" it's always has. SO that's my opinion, I LOVE YOU MIMI!

Her musicality. If only she wasn’t so shy and humble. Can you imagine if she ad libbed when she was with Whitney. Whitney was always trying to get Mariah to ad lib on When You Believe. Also imagine divas live when celine kept up with aretha and then some. Mariah didn’t want to jump in out of respect
