Have you thought about using Tiotoshi based throw rather than a hip throw because hip throws don't work on fat or heavy people in my experience... kneewaza kataguruma works quite well aswell in a clinch
@Blackbeltbadge8 жыл бұрын
Charles, there are many other variables that go into account. I don't have time in this short video to address them all, but we do have other throws for heavier person.
@brucecharlie86138 жыл бұрын
Trillo Academy I know but its worth mentioning that in videos regarding thows, because people whoo have never done this get it in their head this would work against anyone and it definitely doesn't - its a self defence video you have a responsibility about what you tell people cause they will get hurt if they try that in a real street fight.

What about the headbutt to the nose?that usually ends a row
@Blackbeltbadge7 жыл бұрын
Yes it does!
@RhinoXpress6 жыл бұрын
Yeah in a street fight especially when you're dealing with multiple threats at once a headbutt after you block someones punches with this technique would be the safest and fastest solution. The last thing you want to do is to get into a grappling situation when you're dealing with multiple threats at once, because you'll be opening yourself up to all kinds of problems then. a few years ago there was a fight outside a bar i went to and one guy took the other guy to the ground and the dudes friend that got taken to the ground came in and head kicked the other guy ontop of his friend knocking him out cold. That's why grappling in a street fight can be soo dangerous because you never know how many threats you may have to deal with at once.
@Blackbeltbadge5 жыл бұрын
Great feedback Steel. If you ever take a class with me, I often tell everyone that you want to avoid the ground if at all possible in a street attack. In this case, we are dealing with a one subject attacker based on what is happening at that moment. If you are being attacked by multiple subjects at the same time, well we can all agree that you are in for a ride. Here is my concept. I teach you to maximize control and overcome that attacker through efficient Jiujitsu techniques which involve Takedowns, Striking and Jiujitsu. You must first learn to defend 1 attacker, before you can even possible think about defending more than 1. Thank You Steel.

A few keys for the throw is 1) getting your feet inside your opponents and 2) grabbing their belt, or back of their pants with whichever hand thats going around their waist and 3) getting your hip in deep enough to be able to pick them up with it. It’s not as easy as it looks and requires a LOT of practice to be able to pull it off in a real fight.
@Blackbeltbadge4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott, I have actually evolved this defense and throw. I agree, not easy to step in front of a resisting subject, but it can be done if you practice it frequently. Remember, doing against an untrained person in the street is kinda the easy part, the hard part is against someone who knows.

@Blackbeltbadge6 жыл бұрын
I have modified this technique. From side position I will extend my back leg across his two legs and make him fall on his back instead. If he decides to hold my head, I will simply modify mount him and free my arm by framing his neck, or you can chose to punch him in the face;) These videos are old, and I have since made many modifications. I will post new ones soon.

@Blackbeltbadge8 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mike. There are various throws you can do from this position. This is a good example of not just practicing your Jiujitsu, but your throws, striking etc. all must be practiced. Only then after repeated repetition training will you develop the instincts to handle all the "What If's".

I agreed with him up to around the 4 minute mark. Engage, keep your hands up, create a physical and psychological "fence" etc but if he's going to throw, pre-emptively hit him. If you are forced to block, block and hit, don't block both arms and aim to clinch. Clinching means going to the ground and you never ever want to be on the ground in a real fight. Sticking your head on the guy's chest as shown at the 5 minute mark is going to result in his fingers in your eye and him trying to rip your head off - especially if you haven't hit him and are anticipating 30 seconds of tussle. It also means that for those 30 seconds, you have no idea whether his buddy is walking up behind you with a baseball bat.

Genuine question. What if the guy gets you in a headlock with the arm that's not wrapped up,could you still excute the same throw?
@Blackbeltbadge6 жыл бұрын
I have since modified this technique to an even easier takedown. To answer your question, yes you can still get out. It doesn't matter if he holds my head or not. In many cases, holding my head is prefered as he cannot hit and hold at the same time. If he wanted to hit me, he would have to release his grip and then I could escape easier. I hope this helps. Possible response against a single unarmed aggressor that might end well. There are two problems with relying on this kind of response, however. First of all, those people are often not alone, and you don't know what's in his back-pocket or his sock. Does he have a friend hanging back? Secondly, you know what's coming in the dojo, but you don't know what's coming in the street. Is it a haymaker, an elbow, a headbutt, a knee, an uppercut, a concealed knife? It is safer to train for universal solutions - pre-emptive punching from a safe position. The hands up in the danger zone is a must, but grappling should always be plan B. Self-defense is self-defense. You should not worry about hurting your aggressor, your only focus should be to defend yourself effectively and fast. If someone is squaring up on you and acts in a threatening manner, you should not rely on your reflexes, you've got to act - now! If you have the luxury of time to train for multiple scenarios, like a drunk uncle you can hip-throw, by all means do, but know that grappling in the street makes you lose sight of what's going on around you, and if other people start joining in, or a weapon appears, you've lost control. I know it has a feel-good vibe to train for pacifying people without hurting them, but the reality of naked aggression has nothing to do with feeling good. Geoff Thompson is the guru of martial arts applied to self defense. Check out his stuff.

John good points, and I always address everything you mention. However, like to tell everyone who mentions the 1 vs several question. You must first learn to fight 1 guy, before you can even think about fighting more than 1. As for the several guys jumping you at once, well I hope you have a Gun because there isn't much you can do if several guys jump at you at the same time.

I like this video :) The block you do with the left hand, is it used similar to wing chun where you use a soft, absorbing or wedging force, or is it more like karate and used as a hard block to the arm? It looks as though a hook could slip round it, so is there some technique to it preventing the movement? I like the psychology aspects in there as well, hadn't thought about the side turn

*if* you’re lucky enough to block that first punch, as you’ve moved in wouldn’t the quickest and easiest thing to do would be hit him in the face with your right as your moving in or right uppercut followed by left hook....but then this is grappling.

Don't take notes from movies on what is actually possible with martial arts. In other words, don't expect to be able to solo a group of 5. An intelligent martial artist would check the situation, weigh the risk, and make a decision. And when it comes to fighting in the streets, there's no room for risk since you don't know who is armed, and who isn't, or if the person that is attempting to engage you has backup. Better yet, be smart about your surroundings and don't put yourself in that kind of position.

BasicallyJustJudo is terrible training for self-defence. For every assault you defeat with grappling you will lose one because the other guy was bigger, stronger, faster, luckier or simply had reinforcement such as a buddy or a weapon. A system that actually expects to be tussling for "at least 30 seconds" is very impractical. Note the "attacker"'s left arm in this demo strangely becomes paralysed by "McDojo frozen attacker syndrome". In reality as you throw a guy he will grab and tear at your clothing/neck/ear/hair or face and you may well suffer injury as he pulls you over to the ground. Hint: only an idiot wants to be on the ground in a streetfight. Hint: just hit them.
@Blackbeltbadge8 жыл бұрын
You are missing the point Daniel. This is not a "Will work all the time technique". This is a guide of what you can do if placed in this situation. If you don't do any type of training in life, this is a good technique, and more important is the importance of distance management. I believe I explain all of this. The reality is that to become proficient at anything, you must train regularly, to the point that your reflex is a natural flow from one "What if to another". That is what Jiujitsu is. A what if answer. It is naive to say and think that in a real life fight, things will go as planned. They NEVER DO. But it is better to have a plan in place, which will give you a guide as opposed to not having anything in place and not prepared.
@danielskipp18 жыл бұрын
Trillo Academy No, I didn't miss the point. You are obfusticating with irrelevancies. You can do anything you like but this rubbish plan is just rubbish.... but do feel free to tell people they can expect over 30 seconds of tussling before they get their stupid hip throw in. I am sure your koolaid drinkers will be very grateful... right until they actually have to use it. Your plan sucks... better to have no plan at all.
