@@sailingmaalie Norway looks amazing also from the boat. Solene had the "leaving Norway blues", I know all about it. The landscape is so magnificent. Years ago we visited Lofoten islands with our kids, 5 and 7 at the time. We spent there couple of days camping, saw whales, climbed smaller fjällas, just fantastic. When we left and were driving over the mountains back to Finland, my son was sobbing in the back seat, I asked what's wrong. He basically explained it exactly like Solene. I had the same feeling after my first visit to the fjords. It's a beautiful place.

It was SO hard to pull ourselves away, but the season to sail south was fast approaching. We will definitely be back, and put aside much more cruising time as we only scratched the surface. Is your son still pining for the wilderness or did he make it back there??

@@sailingmaalie we've made it back a few times, and the departures got easier because we knew we'd be back 🥹

another great film, did you change your traveller to the double line rig? or she came that way? Peterhead is a great marina and town
@sailingmaalie
@sailingmaalie 3 ай бұрын
Thanks again! No, we put it together 👍🏼We can add the double mainsheet traveller when we are using the spray hood cover extension (need a catchier name for it..) Normal traveller is still in place for when we remove cover. Agreed, Peterhead was brilliant!

Another Fab episode, proper sailors with a proper boat. Im really enjoying your vids, lots of good sailing content. BTW your sails look in fabulous knick, are they new? Alistair, London.

Maalie looks after us, she is a tank! Appreciate the support, I've been putting more time into putting the videos together, glad you enjoy them. Sails are not new, just very well built from Kemp sails. These were purchased in 2015 (way before we had the boat) and had minimal use. Now we have put 10,000nm on them and have only had to replace the UV strip on the genoa. V strong construction, meant for offshore sailing. We also upped our sail area recently with a new staysail, that will be in a vid coming out soon ⛵️⛵️

Great trip guys, thanks for sharing. It seems like you have choosen a great weather window for that passage. So how long did it take you from Stavanger to Peterhead? How big are those solar panels you have? I'm planning a trip from Denmark to Stavanger and Lysefjord in May. Take care.
@sailingmaalie
@sailingmaalie 5 ай бұрын
Thabks for stopping by and saying hello! Yes we got a very nice window, between frequent low pressures that were passing through. We did 280nm in 59 hrs, not the fastest but great sailing. Solar panels are 2 x 100w and 1 x 125w. Max input we've had is up to 16-17Amps 😎 All the best for your trip in the Spring, May is definitely a good month to sail in the North 🏔

Nice to see , but...I would have to much Fear to do so. Water everywhere on the Horizont.......looks like I was and will be always a "Landrat"! Was in the Desert, same with Sand on the Horizont everywhere, I had no Trouble to come clear with that. But on the "Water Desert".....well, I would "shit my Pants".
@sailingmaalie
@sailingmaalie 5 ай бұрын
We felt the same way the first time, but you get used to it pretty quick. It is not so agoraphobic in fact, as the horizon is about 3 miles in every direction. When the wind stops it definitely feels like a desert sometimes though!
