Great Video spreading awareness. I keep all the showroom scooters ready to roll. Sales often take less than 30mins and they can ride off. Testrides, early mornings in the parking lot, most people can handle a scooter no problem but there are exceptions. Pricing: just pay what they are asking if its a Buddy, Lance or SYM then its worth it (VINs starting with R are dependable, Made in Taiwan not China). Keep your dealer in business, dont buy off the internet or else one day there will be no small businesses left, only mega corporations.

FEES: I don't have a problem paying tax and government fees - ok - those are paid regardless of whether you buy new or used. Freight: Ok - makes sense - cars have destination charges which is the average cost of moving the goods from point A to you. Dealer Prep: This is where I diverge - The dealer buys the vehicle wholesale - there is PROFIT in the MSRP - and that PROFIT is what runs your business - and that includes prep costs - I REFUSE to pay you to operate your business. That's where profit comes in - it doesn't take 3-4 hours to prep a scooter for delivery - yet - most places try to get around $250 for this 'service'. Misc Junk Fees: I tried to buy a Yamaha Zuma 125 new. They had a 2020 model on sale for $2999. I offered them $2999. Cash Money - the price ended up being $4300 with about $1000 in junk fees and prep. I told them I'd bring them cash - hand me the title - like any other private transaction - but they still wanted $653 for a doc fee. Thats highway robbery and more hidden profit for the dealer. It's TWO forms. One for titling and one for tax submission. And they were charging $25 for the sales tax form in the sales tax computation. I offered them their price on the Cost of scooter - freight - TTL - nothing for dealer prep and $100 for their doc fee. Ended up being about $3600 - and I'd bring 36 $100 bills. Or a bank check. They absolutely refused - ok - sell the scooter to someone else - but - its still for sale - 2 months later - and had been for sale for 6 months before that. A Cash deal means they hand me the paperwork - a title application - and I take it to the DMV three blocks away. It's MY time I'm wasting - hell - I would have offered to pay the TTL at the DMV too.

I've reached the point where if I buy a new bike from a well known manufacturer I often don't even test ride it. I spend lots of time watching and reading reviews and researching everything there is to know about it before I ever go into a dealership to see if it feels comfortable to sit on. I mean, if it's a Honda or a Vespa or a Kymco I don't expect any real problems with it and I'll adapt to whatever characteristics it has. It did annoy me a bit that I had to adjust the headlight and the throttle cable on my new Like 150 after being charged $300 for "Dealer Prep". But 2000 miles later I haven't had to touch a thing except oil changes, and I find that I like it even more than I was expecting to. I think Kymco is the equal of any other scooter manufacturer as far as quality goes, definitely not a "Chinese scooter" as some people claim, even though some models are built in China.

Thanks for your posting this newbie. It was a little bit easier this time for me this time. I finally decided on State 8 Cycles in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. I used to go to their other store that is now closed. I ended up getting the Lance Italia Classic 150 that was traded in from a guy who enjoys camping with his family. It seems it was only driven within a small campground only 750 miles on it. It seems that it is a fairly rare find. State 8 did that 1st year maintenance on it for me where they changed the oil and also changed the transmission oil and lube. And a slight tune up adjustment. When I got it home, I had to make a slight adjustment to the angle of the fuel pump unit since it is centrifugal force using gravity for fuel distribution and not actually being a pump. I had to break open the carburetor and used 2 cans of gumout carb cleaner to get all that stickiness out of there due to someone using that corn flakey gas containing ethanol. I used 3 cans of 93 canned fuel from rural king and 1 can of seafoam for some upper cylinder treatment and now I can finally ride without any of that bogging down and stalling out. I also found out like you did that this scooter is not for everyone as while on the stand is a little too tall for me, but on the ground it is the perfect height. I thank you for mentioning it because it is incredibly rare and mine is a 2020 model and only made that year. I feel really lucky to own it.

I have owned 2 scooters, a Yamaha QT50, about 40 years ago, and I recently purchased a 150cc Chinese scooter, new, after shipping it was $1400. I have been riding motorcycles for the last 40 years and have had several, 2 currently, an 1100 and an 800. I bought the Chinese scooter so I could carry it on the back of our motorhome but am loving it. It is a Senling 150, branded as an X-Pro Tahiti 150. Here in Nebraska there are ZERO scooter dealers. All we can do is shop online. I have no idea if it was a good choice. So far it is working out alright, with about 95 miles on it. But I have complaints. I doubt I would have bought it if I'd been able to try it, as the seat is too short and the mirrors are too. But I can live with it. X-Pro has been useless for support. But for $1400, I guess you get what you pay for.

@@ScooterNewbie When I bought my first Vespa in 2005 it seemed then that Piaggio was committing to expanding the world of scooters in North America. New dealerships were opening and they were moving from a Vespa as a boutique item to something more aligned with stylish transportation. They had two paid bloggers and seemingly endless marketing ideas. But they were never able to get their marketing away from a metro-centric, cool youth style. Or understand that the people who could shell out for a new Vespa were usually not young, didn't live in Manhattan or Los Angeles, and weren't particularly interested in a Vespa as a fashion statement. It's been sad to watch the slow retraction of the Vespa brand in North America. The product is still great but the commitment to own one gets more challenging all the time. At least from my perspective here in Central Pennsylvania. I am fortunate that the former local Vespa dealer still will service and repair my Vespa. But if they didn't, it would be a long ride to get that done. And I would likely abandon the Vespa for a Yamaha or Honda scooter that I could have cared for locally. And as you are well aware, those scooters are no Vespa!

I'm betting that if you would have ridden a scooter to the dealers, they have granted a test ride. Even with the dealer's insurance, the time spent doing the paperwork related to an accident and the cost of not having the crashed scooter on the floor for sale are losses for the dealer. So a shiney, new "M" on a license isn't going to ease a dealer's legitimate concerns.

What you`ll find is the mainstream companies ,ie Honda Yamaha and the like see scooters as a part of their range a small part where as vespa made everything from that the vespa and have added moto guzzi,gilera , to their product range so vespa scooters are pushed at their dealers . Here`s something for you to enjoy DANCIN with Monsters cadwell park 2021 ,pictures are onboard a vespa

Thanks, maximapitko! That would be crazy neat to bump into an AK550 in the wild! I’m down south in Galveston County, & I discovered a local motorcyclist with a KZbin channel. We had commented back & forth a few times about local restaurants, & low & behold… we ran into him & his wife at an Indian dealer in the Woodlands. 😂 Both of us were far from home, so it was funny to have that small world moment!

Great vid. I am in Houston and looking for a scooter. First call to Stubb was eye opening. They seem to rob people (at least over a Honda Super Cub). Do you have a good dealer(s) for a Kymco or Buddy? Thanks for the show. BTW, I couldn't afford the V's... : (
@ScooterNewbie2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry for the delay but Kymco is a bit hard to find locally. Scootersmith was having a hard time getting them in, but they have plenty of Buddy’s! If you’re north of town, Aggieland Scoots might have a Kymco. Worth a shot!

@@ScooterNewbie Thanks for your reply. I eventually went to ScooterSmith and purchased a 2022 white Hooligan 170i. She's a good machine but the deal was a nightmare. I asked if they would take PayPal, Stephen said no but accepts VISA and MC. So on day of delivery, I used VISA, on OTD quote plus insurance. Two weeks later, I got my VISA statement showing $170+ more than the invoice. I went to the shop, it turned out that he put the VISA merchant fees on me. I argued without avail... I said if he had mentioned that when we were going through the bill, I would have written him a check. He said no checks either. Only cash. I would have gone 3 blocks to a Chase bank to get the $, only if he had mentioned that credit cards are not ACCEPTED. Well, life is too short to waste more time on him. I simply swallowed the fees that was not even on the invoice or receipt. From that, he has lost a customer! So, do watch out on Ss' game play. Thanks again. Happy riding!

4 scooters in 3 years ? Most people buy a scooter for commuting and wear them out before looking for a used one. Guess having money does that to a person.
@barryervin85362 жыл бұрын
On the other hand, most people these days pay much more for the average new car than what she's probably paid for all 4 of her scooters combined. So that hardly makes her a multi-millionaire.
