Never have been more enamored with your travel vlogs than this particular episode! I love all the other ones, but this one struck a chord. Visiting Vietnam with my dad was his longstanding--and perhaps--dying wish. Unfortunately, he passed last year before we could take him back to the motherland. Watching this vlog and experienced your trek with Kevin vicariously to this jewel of the orient was utterly moving and heart-warming. I have the tears to prove it. Thanks most kindly for bringing me the sights, sounds and mouth-watering aroma (from the imagination of my palette)!!! Safe travels and Godspeed to the most exotic and exquisite destinations that awaits you!

@Tuan Thai So classy and brilliant of you to lop ad-hominem attacks at me to say nothing but that you have a different point of view and express your disagreement about how i felt about my home country. Perhaps it was your home country as well, but you'd willingly disavowed it, fine by me, but i did not asked for nor need your vitriol. Your assertions are so utterly and ludicrously ignorant and entirely lacking in understanding of history and economic developments in the country that i pondered where to begin. For the record, Vietnam has slumps, but the country is not a slump. Like many developing countries, many of which are it's neighbors, it has serious problems with poverty, public corruptions, education, crimes (mostly petty; e.g., pick-pocketing, tourist scams, general social ills, lower standard of living, wealth disparities, etc.). This is hardly unique to Vietnam. Heck, America has plenty of slumps, or just take your pick of any country, whether developed, developing, underdeveloped on any continent anywhere. The one thing that are not unique to most, if not all, of these other countries is that they did not have to endure and suffer a long painful war with the most powerful country in the world. The decades following the War, the country was reeling, struggling, and limping along from the after effects. My family was subsisting off food rations regularly in the eighties. My mom stood in breadlines along with everyone in town for hours for a few teeny baguettes at a time, few times a week so my brothers and I would have food in our stomachs. On a good day we might have sweet potatoes or cassava porridge. Our most basic living needs were incessantly called into question--prolong power outages--no running water--what little stores existed with conspicuously emptied shelves--medical cares, forget about it. Yet, the country had emerged from the depth of war ravages and economic depression to undergo economic, political, and social reforms since the early 90's. Admittedly, it's not as fast as anyone would like, myself including, nevertheless, real and tangible progress are being made. When i went back, i saw random Vietnamese hipsters sporting iPhones, readily available wifi and internet services blanket the country. Many expats are moving back to start businesses. There is a burgeoning tourist industry, many Americans tourists have made it their vacation destinations, not to mention every American President since Clinton had paid state visits to the country and relations between the two countries couldn't be warmer. In fact, surveys in both countries rated in the high 40%--as high as any 2 countries can get! Yet, you discounted all these FACTS and chose to be myopic. No one should and can make you take the long trip back, especially if you see the country so decrepit, worthless and irredeemable--4 TIME OVER!!! It's your prerogative to self inflict unwarranted miseries. DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON OTHERS!
