It is wonderful that you were able to give a lovely gift to your father-in-law and also raise money to fund the Charleston Hope Lodge. I don't think people realize what an amazing gift you have given by bidding in the auction at the Gala the other night. As an ACS Board of Ambassador member for the gala, the donation you and the former owner made to Hope Lodge is greatly appreciated. For those of you who don't know, the Hope Lodge is available to families going through cancer treatment when they do not live in the state in which they are receiving care.

Now this brings back some memories for me. About 20 years ago i was running a 74 MGB as a daily driver. The last one with the chrome bumpers, center line wire wheels. In late 74 1/2 they switched to what that 80 of yours is now, rubber bumpers and those 4 lug wheels. Fun little car but i was constantly working on it. I used to laugh every time i was going through one of the british leyland parts catalogs at the time, they used to have on the cover "The greatest hobby car in america", yeah, that's because i was always under it! lol The one i had someone before me had the dual stromberg carbs on it. Nothing but trouble with that, got the weber DGV on it, then THAT was happy at least. Lets see, the fuel pumps. Was going though those all the time, cleaning the points, or just straight out replacing them about 3 times over the three years i ran it. Turn the key and you had to wait a few seconds while it "clickity click clicked' until the pressure came up, give it just the right amount of choke on the dash, a pump on the pedal, and then you were ready to spin the starter. It was a whole procedure, you just didn't hop in, hit the key and go. The wire wheels were a pain. I live in Vegas and the streets here pretty much sucked then, and still do. Just normal city driving and hitting a few of those crappy bumps kept knocking those wire wheels out of true all the time. A regular tire shop couldn't do anything with them, i would have to take the wheels to the harley shop and have them true up those spokes. PITA, did that i think three different times. Fun car, but if you try to use it as a daily driver, bad Juju. Sunday toy only. I am sure that 80 isn't that much trouble. Nice car, fun car. Enjoy!! P.S I will save the story of my 52 MG TD for another time, but it also had the center line wire wheels with knock off's and it drove like a tractor! 😃

Well, i'm happy for him. But in reality, it looks as if he really wanted one he could have just bought one. His yearly gardening bill or green fees are more than I make. When i was young in the 70s my Dad and I used to buy and restore and sell MGs and Austin-Healeys and Triumphs and Sunbeams for extra cash and used ones were dirt cheap then $250 to $500 usually and there was a foreign car junk yard not far from home and we bought alot of parts on JC Whitney parts were cheap we did everything ourselves from engines to transmissions to paint to upholstery. By the way MG stands for "My God" is that thing broke down again and they have Lucas electric componets in them and Lucas is known as the "Prince of Darkness".

I bought it to support the American cancer society charity and help others. Buying it outright doesn’t help anyone

Even if you believe that, that's just so disrespectful to even compare an AMERICAN CITIZEN to a FULL-BLOWN ANTI AMERICAN COMMUNIST!

Prime example of wants and needs without a reality. The guys front doors cost more than the car. Go park it with the other ones he don't drive.
