Surprising things anesthesiologist assistants do in a day- Day in the life vlog

This vlog is an abbreviated version of what I do in the week as a board certified anesthesiologist assistant. My days consistent of my morning routine, getting the anesthetic equipment set up, doing a machine check every day, teaching students, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, reviewing patient charts, and more. I cover common induction medications and go over succinylcholine, which is a muscle relaxant/paralytic. I work a 5-8 schedule, which means I work five days a week by doing 8 hour days. I also try to go to the gym at least four times a week and have become vegan within the last year in an effort to get healthier.

A little about me:
I am a NYC native who always had an interest in medicine and pharmacology. I was heavily considering medical school and specializing in anesthesia until I learned more about advance practice providers in anesthesia. I graduated with my masters of medical science in anesthesia in 2021 and have worked two jobs since then as a board certified anesthesiologist assistant. I hope to raise more awareness about this awesome profession through this content. Outside of anesthesia, I am passionate about financial literacy and independence. I also love traveling and have a love/hate relationship with the gym.

Thank you so much for your videos, you’re teaching me so much. As someone who’s looking into CAA myself, I have a couple questions: 1) did you consider going the PA route while exploring CAA as an option? Why or why not? 2) are there particular CAA programs that are considered “better” or “worse” than others in terms of how well they prepare graduates, job placement rates, etc.? Or is choosing which program to attend more of a geographic/financial decision? 3) does anesthesia provide enough variety for you to never worry about doing the same thing over and over again till you retire? Do you ever wonder if there’ll be a point where you’ll ask “is there ever gonna be more to this?”? 4) how much flexibility do CAAs have in transitioning to work for VA hospitals? Let’s say a CAA wants to live in NY or CA, which currently do not recognize CAAs. Could she or he find employment at a VA hospital there without too much trouble, or is that not really a thing? Hi! In regards to propofol's burning sensation, it is not necessarily due to the pKa. There is work from other researchers suggesting that the low concentration of propofol in the aqueous phase of the oil-water emulsion acts directly on a receptor on the inside of blood vessel walls to cause pain. Other than that, great work on the video!
