I met Anthony in Grand Rapids Michigan whilst he was touring with Eric Rupert. I knew where he would be. I saw him enjoying a beer. My wife begged me to get a pic from my hero. I worked in restaurants for 43 years at that point. Kitchen Confidential is the best book ever written about the industry. I have a pic with Anthony that still breaks my heart. It sits in revereance but you can see he was unhappy 2 years before he said enough.I now understand that he just wanted to be alone. I apologize Anthony - thank you for all you did.

I love your comment my friend, just as I loved watching Anthony in all his travels. How cool it is that you met him in person! As much as this loss saddens me, I understand we all have our demons, or pitfalls. At least he didn't get to see the day when you couldn't go to a restaurant, he got out of here just in time. That brings me a smile.

I'm just happy he's in peace and anthony is no longer suffering. A lot of people say that suicide is the most selfish thing you can do. I disagree, maybe you wishing the person didn't commit suicide is the selfish thing. Or just condemning suicide is the selfish thing. I don't look at suicide as selfish because they're sick and they just want the pain to stop. Finally you get to rest in peace anthony!!

I'm so grateful, to those who knew Anthony, that finally we can somewhat know why he took his life. It's easy to imagine all the good things he had to live for, but our psyche is so complex! He definitely left a space that no one else can fill. ❤

I saw him on the street in Manhattan with his wife and pushing his daughter in a carriage. As I passed I said simply "Mr. Bourdain". He stopped, said Hi and gave me a warm but sort of shy smile. I was a big fan of his, but I sensed that engaging him any further would have been intrusive, though I'm sure he'd have been friendly regardless.
@andrewsharif6017 Жыл бұрын
I know that feeling. As much as I loved his entire career, the thing I related to him the most was his deemed inability to accept love. It’s a brutal feeling, and you realize the exceptions to this rule and the moments you accept love from others is comparable to the winning the lottery.

I saw him being filmed eating with his friend at an Italian restaurant in New York years ago. I was out with family and shocked to see him. We glanced at each other and I couldn't help but look over a few more times, snap a discreet pic and tell my family about him. I was such a big fan but held back out of respect and did not bother him or try to talk while he was there. From one introvert to another, I could sense his nervous and shy energy just from the second of eye contact we made with each other and I knew he didn't want to be recognized. I just wish he understood how fucking cool I thought he was. RIP Bourdain.

@lavenderbee36112 жыл бұрын
Introverts think & feel deeply, they need to be alone sometimes to recharge their batteries. It's not that they don't like being around people, it just overloads their system if it's constant. Tony really was a unique voice, I miss his wry humor and humility. He is dearly missed. Introversion is a beneficial trait for writers.

The thing was the biography never addressed his alcoholism. This killed him. Inadvertently. Alcohol is lethal for those with depression. It exacerbates the condition. My son has similar issues and I recognized the symptoms in AB. He was rarely without a drink no matter what the clock rang or who he was with. He needed the stuff. My son cannot drink. It has pushed him over the edge in the past, and now he's sober.

The transformation T went through during the Argento years was obvious in hindsight that something was going wrong. But because Bourdain was the goose that lays the golden egg no one would step up and challenge his decisions like when he fired longtime cameraman Zach Zamboni. Everyone just sat idly by and let the destruction of Parts Unknown begin which must have been a decision Tony pondered during the shoot in France. The real question is could anyone or anything have saved AB by the time they were shooting the final episode? Or was his mind already made up and his decision was final?

A Man who seemingly had everything. Suddenly comes to a point where nothing mattered at all. Everything's gone... Tony died of humiliation. The chain of events, leading down the darkest 2 weeks of his life - He had $450K in the bank - He paid out a reported $380K out of blind love for Argento. And stuck up for her silly, fake #metoo movement... She turned around, flipped him off, and tossed him aside like a used napkin - Tony was a Romantic. And very lonely. And impulsive... She used him up. Nothing left. 🥵
