I often describe surrender as ignoring all thought except the thought of surrender, and relaxing. What is relaxation? Is it simply doing nothing? It is -- but not in the sense of avoiding all bodily and mental action. It is dropping that effort that feels like YOUR effort, YOUR interference in what is happening... and sometimes starting action can feel like that, and sometimes stopping action can feel like that. In either case, relaxation means moving towards lower tension.

Yes! This is the first time I’ve come across your videos. Finally, someone who approaches from the ‘surrender’ pov rather than ‘self-enquiry’. I spent years attempting, unsuccessfully, to combine the two. There were so many times when I searched ‘relax’ along with ‘non-duality’ or ‘buddhism’ or ‘advaita’ and came up with nothing, or, was directed back to self-enquiry topics. I have learned that with ‘surrender’ everything falls exactly into place. You realize that everything is, indeed, perfect. For my personality (and my current job), surrender works where self-enquiry is very unnatural. Surrender has led me to a place of joy and ease. I love this quote: ‘There is no effort, and you will be led as gently, as if you were being carried along a quiet path in summer.’ This is absolutely true.

So thankful to have come across your channel. Thank you! I have a question - what if reaching out for an object (say, a box of doughnuts) seems natural and it takes effort to stop myself from eating them? How do I drop the tension but not succumb to temptation every time?

It’s not your responsibility to stop yourself from succumbing to temptation. That is merely a thought. Ignore the thought and relax. And whatever happens, happens. If you eat the donuts every single time - so long as you put no effort in, and you turned your attention away from everything (including the donuts)… is fine

@@geetha5037 the point is that you are not your body, nor are you controlled by what is good for it, nor are you the one who makes decisions about it, good OR bad. All those ideas are just thoughts. Surrender is to try to ignore these thoughts. All of them.

Simply keep with surrender and it will eventually drop on its own.
