Why has nobody explained self-inquiry to me like this before? I started out questioning and reasoning, and this was useful, but no one ever suggested my dialogue should then stop as there was this "inversion" and then a sort of feeling inquiry would take over. I understood inner-silence was the end goal, if you will, but I didn't understand that inquiry was the tool to bring me there in this fashion. I believe I thought I needed to have a large number of insights through reasoning and this would, many years from now, somehow deliver the goods. Yet this puts me into the right state so quickly when I feel my way into it. I really appreciate your clarity and practicality. And I'm grateful for your secular approach, if that's a fair way to put it. I've had my fill of mystical riddles, descriptions of God, flawed philosophizing, etc over the last few years I've been looking into this stuff, to the point that I was becoming quite turned off. Simplifying the process and allowing people to discover their own metaphysics is beautiful. Thanks so much.

@@SiftingtotheTruth thanks for answering man! I am looking at your other videos and its getting clearer to me that self-enquiry is about non identifying with whatever the situation is, isn't it? And if you ask for an everyday example , imagine you invest all your lifesavings into a piece of land and 16 years have past and you are not able to sell it, you start feeling frustration. So according with this tecnique how should I proceed to think in order to erase the frustration or better yet to manifest the selling of this property and feel relief?

@@carvtube you would examine WHO it is that has this problem. Self inquiry is about relentlessly chasing the I at every waking moment - every time any thought occurs, you attempt to find to whom it occurs. You chase the sense of your own existence, trying to focus on it. And you will instead land on other thoughts, perceptions, feelings. And you divert from them back to the attempt to find the I. Over and over.

I watched your video and, as someone who has been trying to apply the self inquiry teachings of Adyashanti, I am highly curious. Do you know if it's necessary for someone to have retained their "ojas" for a long period of time in order to reach enlightenment? This is the view of a lot of Hindu teachings, but does your experience corroborate this?
@SiftingtotheTruth
@SiftingtotheTruth 4 жыл бұрын
If ojas is viewed as some kind of quasi-biological entity connected to sex... then it is not necessary. If ojas is viewed more metaphorically as your energy, your attention, then yes -- because you have to focus on self-inquiry or surrender every waking moment over all else if you want to be established in the Self. That requires a concentration, a focusing...

@@SiftingtotheTruth Yea, I was referring to the actual semen. Wow, that's crazy. I have one more question: is decision-making after enlightenment sorta taking place from a deeper part of oneself? For example, if I pursue a career path now, do I run the risk of later feeling like I made a superficial or silly decision if I become enlightened afterwards?
@SiftingtotheTruth
@SiftingtotheTruth 4 жыл бұрын
@@luistirado6305 No. Enlightenment reveals that there is no one making decisions, either now or later. Certainly not an individual. The only real freedom at any time is to choose to turn inward.

This thought-feeling-sensation of “I” is not what we are. It’s an object. How is this “I” seen or known? We are That in which this “I” appears. A thought of ourself as a person arises and disappears in this infinite Awareness, but we, as we truly are, Eternal Awareness , Pure Consciousness, Absolute Self, Is Always. Be willing to give up identifying as a person who is always going after things. With inquiry, you can stop identifying with thoughts and live as the Beingness being happy, content, fulfilled naturally from within. When the mind goes outward, the body, world and overlay of thoughts are created and therefore suffering. When the mind goes inward, the illusion of separation ceases, the identification with I, me, mine disappears and there is Eternal Peace. Inquiry is training the mind to go inward. Earnestly practice inquiry everyday and the thoughts and beliefs will recede in the light of consciousness. Only then will you have a direct knowing of who/what you are.

Why did it take anamalai swami 30 yrs or so of self inquiry to realize the self? Was he just spiritually ungifted or smth? Also, do you think nisargadatta's "i am" practice is the same as ramana's self inquiry
@SiftingtotheTruth
@SiftingtotheTruth 4 жыл бұрын
Because it's a different definition of enlightenment. In fact we are all already enlightened; there is only the mistaken belief that we are not. Only that has to be eliminated. That may have taken him some time. But even that is not true, if we understand enlightenment from the final viewpoint. Nisargadatta's I am practice if properly understood is the same as Ramana's self-inquiry technique. But both can be easily misunderstood. Watch my other videos and read my guide on self-inquiry if you want to do it properly. www.siftingtothetruth.com/blog/2019/6/7/the-ultimate-guide-to-spiritual-self-inquiry

@@SiftingtotheTruth last question (sorry).do you think concentration practices/meditation is necessary? For example japa or samatha? Or is self inquiry amd resting as awareness and letting go/sirrender enough?
@SiftingtotheTruth
@SiftingtotheTruth 4 жыл бұрын
@@Lbpbest1 I don't recommend "resting as awareness." Self-inquiry or surrender are enough if the mind is sufficiently quiet and. concentrated to pursue them with intensity. I recommend a) an intellectual framework for the search, b) emotional work on yourself to deal with your psychological baggage and become honest about what you want, and c) self-inquiry/surrender.

I don’t understand. If I think that the real me is behind my eyes - why does that stop me having such an awareness!.. ? I don’t see the problem with I being aware of me.
@SiftingtotheTruth
@SiftingtotheTruth 2 ай бұрын
Because you cannot be that which you are aware of. If you were aware of it, there would not be any distance -- any boundary -- between you and it to distinguish it as a separate thing. If you were a table, you would not be able to be aware OF the table as separate from you. So what you are aware of cannot, obviously, be the one that is aware of the thing. Of course you can call any object whatever you want. You can say "the table is me, why can't it be me?" But that doesn't get at the point, which is -- where and what is the observer? The observer cannot be the observed.
