Good evening Lady Dena. I just returned from a long walk through a sprawling Japanese garden - so big I decided to get a membership - and keep coming back for this wonderful environment, to fill my senses with such overwhelming beauty, while listening to some of the unending life wisdom on tap from so many kind souls, as yourself, who bravely step up to keep us from wandering off the path and into even more trouble than we’re already going through. The phrase I heard today that stuck with me on the drive back was the past and future are but a dream, pleasant or not so, good or not so. They aren’t real. This moment you’re in right this very second is all that’s real. And if I want to get healthy again, I have to surrender to that reality. That’s the rub, right there. I had to sit on a bench and compose myself, trying to process this. It's the nature of a musician to practice, we’re always practicing - more so for multi-instrumentalists - toward a goal. I have always been a person forever preparing for the future and the next phase of my life. And conversely, now that I’m on my own, I can’t help but yearn for yesterday, count my losses and regrets and beat myself up with what-if’s ad nauseum. In short, this wisdom is instructing me to forget the old me and become someone I don’t know and haven’t yet met. But surrender I must, ok. We’ll see. And when I got home and saw your title for today, the synchronicity hit me and I listened and listened again to you outlining in great detail how this is the path to succeed. Yet I still need to visualize, and I gather I’m to surrender any outcome that’s not part of my vision forward. So I can still practice to my hearts’ content and window shop gear I swear I need because that supports my dream for the future. The future’s a happy place for hopelessly naïve composers. No one can hurt my feelings as long as I have hope, I say to myself. Which brings me full circle back to my problem. My emotions are struggling to release their death grip on past trauma. I know those same emotions are a ghost trying to tell me something. It’s the same thing you’re trying to tell me, too. And I’ll tell you both, surrendering is the hardest thing in the world. The challenge is how to say that with my music. Some composers need music therapy more than anyone else, speaking from experience. That’s my truth.

So impactful! Surrendering is the hardest because you still have to keep going, but in a new way. If you could be in the moment with the past, as you see it for what it is and accept it, then what? What if the past only wanted to be accepted for was and not fought with? And after that acceptance, there's calm. And then you're left with, what would the next moment be after the calm? And the one after that? Being in the present time still gives us the hopeful opportunity to vision our path forward. One step at a time into a new perspective on a new road. And what would the soundtrack be?

@@DenaBenavidez Dena, you are indeed a very special healer! What is truly impactful here is how you've effortlessly just laid out the most ingenious & succinct set of steps to cure my profound grief. Incredible! How could anything so simple be so powerful? I'm not even going to try to understand but embrace it on faith and know it will work. So you better believe I'm going to memorize and chant this montra every single day. Please consider a short talk to amplify your method to help others. Few people are talking about the true scope of excess mortality of recent years but it's real, meaning there are so many others out there in need of your help. I especially hope these simple words will render a lot of over-prescribed drugs pointless. Talk about impactful! Your angel wings are showing a little, and yet you're so modest. Regarding my soundtrack, per your suggestion, it will generally be a tribute to my wife Hiroko, though more specifically I envision a video game about a mythical princess sent by the universe to save the world from itself. A metaphor as she was sent into my life to save me from myself. I pray The Legend of Hiroko becomes as popular as you are destined to become as a gifted healer. I have dubbed you Lady Dena, but an angel by any other name is still an angel. Bless you.

Here is the daily affirmation/prayer/mantra I have adapted from your powerful words, that I want to commit to memory or such revision you suggest: "Surrender, knowing you must keep going, but in a new way. Where the past simply wants to be accepted for what once was and not fought with. Accept that you can be in the moment with the past, as you see it for what it is. And after that acceptance, there's calm. Within the stillness of all the moments hereafter, your presence lends clarity to the wisdom that you can only regain your physical strength by surrendering your emotional turmoil. Hence to envision your path forward to ultimately restore your hopefulness and faith of the beautiful future you so richly deserve."
