I’ve ridden an Ebike since 2011 and every law enforcement officer I meet has a different version of Ebike laws. There’s something about the “control” factor of the human brain that simply won’t allow many officers to adapt a proper attitude towards learning the exact laws that have been passed. So many of them add their own rules to suit their tastes; and won’t listen to the truth. Besides the SCOTUS has turned them all into lying ass thieves and fines and fees are the only important subject to consider.

I'd love to see not only how it's changed as Sur Ronster and the rest of this segment of the ebike community has grown from then to today, but also what'd they say if you were on a E Ride Pro SS or a Talaria and asked the same questions. If they don't even care nor know about the power limit then that should apply to any other ebike, right? Somebody like me who wants to get an E Ride Pro SS or something similar and follow the rules of traffic like the officers said in this video, could really use and appreciate that sort of information. Like I said, I'd be really interested in what they have to say and I'm sure a lot of people would too.

Illegal ebikers are relying on the police being ignorant about the relevant laws. When and if there is a backlash against these bikes due to complaints, accidents, injuries, reckless riders etc., the police will be trained up and won't be so ignorant. If you injure someone while riding an illegal ebike, trust me, that person's lawyer is going to know everything about ebike laws and use those laws against you.

In my experience, in these areas: being respectful and following the laws of the road make a big difference in who gets a tickets. one of the things i have seen that police will ticket is riding on the sidewalk at speeds much faster than walking speed. passing pedestrians without warning (always use a bell) will often get a phone call/complaint and quickly result in being pulled over. and this has also been explained to me by law enforcement and pedestrians. pedestrians do not like being passed without warning of approach. and never passing pedestrians at speeds far greater than any given pedestrians walking speed.

Yes, the manufacturer has to abide by the ebike maximum speed, as the laws allow, however, the government has no business imposing that rule/laws on ebike manufactures. IOW, how is it fair to impose a built in speed limit on manufactured ebikes, but not on the manufacture of cars which are built to go way faster than any given speed limit? Either put a cap on the built in speed limits for all cars, or any gas powered vehicle for that matter, or back off of laws insisting on built in speed limits for ebikes. Simple. Dont get me wrong here, I only suggest that because I know they will never actually put a cap on car speed, but only to make my point, that in all fairness, ebikes, and those us who ride them should be treated the same as with gas powered vehicles. And its not like I'm expecting 100mph street legal ebikes. This all stems from the need for government to be more friendly to these energy saveing little marvels in order to get more people interested in them....a move that would be good for us all.

I suspect it depends, for example going 10 mph on a crowded sidewalk downtown at busy time they may stop you but if it's an area of town where hardly anyone walks, they look the other way.

Generally a cop isn’t going to stop you on an ebike unless you’re doing something stupid… Like me going 60 in a 40 zone. Cops also don’t memorize every law that the cities create. But as ebikes become more and more popular, you can bet they will be memorizing these laws more because they are enforcing them more and more. Ebikes just aren’t under their radar nearly as much as we think.
@CrypticCobra2 жыл бұрын
Generally people on E-bikes are well off people. Well off people are not the type that commit crimes. Poor people do out of desperation/they are poor because they make bad decisions like comiting crimes. Someone on a crappy normal bike is way more likely to draw the attention of a cop. Legally cops are not allowed to discriminate against people. Bikes/vehicles are not people. So riding around in/on a crappy form of transportation is perfectly legal for them to purposefully target.

I know it seems kinda dumb but it’s for your own safety plus there is no test for a bike permit so just do it. I personally made a “commuter electric dirt bike” so it only goes 35mph(when in highest gear but I registered it as a moped in case anything happens but because it doesn’t go over the limits I don’t require license

Hearing you say you don't have a street legal bike, and knowing how many bikes you have, makes that hilarious

We have E scooters in the UK, now the interesting bIt . Approved city Scooters can be used in public on the road, and privately owned E scooters can't be used other than on private property. That's where it falls down- ------ there are hundreds of private scooters on the roads, on the pavement/ sidewalk, in pedestrian only areas, whizzing about unchecked, knocking,and nearly knocking people over, and not much is done about it. So if cops don't know the laws, or don't care, that's how it remains.

It's like that now. Mark my words, they'll eventually set laws and regulations and start writing tickets, registration, etc.

I have an ebike that I ride all the time with a 750 watt motor and usually maintains about 25 mph and the police never did say anything to me and ebike like these as far as I know are completely street legal no license, tag, or insurance required since these ebike are still classified as bicycles.

What if you’re 13-15 years old what are the laws then? Are you allowed to ride on a road?
@ceer62 ай бұрын
If you’re 13-15 years old, the laws depend on where you live. In many places, you can ride a Class 1 or 2 e-bike (those with pedal assist or a throttle that tops out at 20 mph) on the road without needing a license. But, you may need to wear a helmet, and it’s important to follow the same traffic rules as regular bicycles. Check your local e-bike laws for specific details.

I live in MN and its states, on Trails a ebike can only have a 750watt motor and a max speed of 28 with no throttle(Class 3) even tho it then state's that bikes can be class 2 and 3 but must stay within 20mph on trails. This is not even talking about federal law of course were its like 28mph period. My state has no laws about it for road use other then have a front light and back light, and now ur turn signals or have turn signals.

I noticed when you parked your truck you don't use parking brake. Bad for your vehicle over time but, more importantly it is a safety thing. Don't trust your drivetrain to keep your car in place when parked. Not a fan of the folding e-bikes or the big fat tire ones. I want one that pretty much looks like a road bike hybrid. And definitely one with pedals because I really want to pedal but, want help on hills or into the wind.

I live at the border with Mexico, South California and the police never tells me anything, or ask me about volts, amps or watts Either they don't know the law for Ebikes or they don't care

as long as the motor has a cut off at 20mph, it is street legal.. You can of course ride faster but only under your own power.. You must use bike lanes if (they're available and clear of debris or blocks). otherwise you are legally able to take an entire lane just like a car.. Bikes were hear before cars, that grandfathers you into right to use public roads.

There’s like 12 and 13-year-old kids riding Willys up and down the street where I live and they go out on the main roads and ride their bikes and I don’t think there’s an age limit or any kind of speed limit for an electric bite so that seems like it’s the best way to commute.
@jasongeyer2111 Жыл бұрын
nuts that bike gets over 40. I used to long board and got little over 40 down hills and 40 feels pretty fast. I'm surprised that gets that fast being a small e bike, I think that's pretty good speed on that. ❤

When you consider the avg speed at the Tour de France is 22mph, 28mph on an ebike is more than enough unless you have a strong need to get to a hospital.

I'm in CA & have a Heybike Mars. I ride it just like a bicycle & use bike lanes if there is one unless making left turns or riding on the sidewalk. Just yield always to pedestrians. There is no helmet law if under 18. Why I got an e-bike as helmets on bikes are dangerous IMHO.

E-Bikes are necessarily new and most officers are not educated on laws based on Electric Scooters, Electric Bikes, and basically any electric motorized vehicles, thats why most Officers tends to not interact with them otherwise if they see another crime being committed, like not wearing the proper gear, or following proper traffic law. And when asked some of them don't neccesairely answer, remember, Motorized E Vehicles like scooters and bikes like RECENTLY Got popular, like around 2022 was the year where most people started riding them.

If your being respectful you shouldn’t have issues. Watt limits should not matter it’s riding at a safe speed for the conditions.

I have a Neurological Disorder so Im limited on where I can go. Ive been looking at many different ebikes as a replacement. Keep cranking out the vids. Luv to see the rides.

Cops aren’t generally going to be bothered with e-bikes. Unless you are violating traffic laws. If a bike violates a law it’s the same as a vehicle. Even bikes 50cc and under most don’t care. You don’t need a license or registration but if it’s above 50cc than yes. Some jurisdictions are 49cc and below.
