Surrounded by WHALES Plus FIRST KING Salmon of the YEAR!

A dead calm day, surrounded by WHALES, and Tj hooks his first king salmon of the year! Waaahooo, It was a fun fight and all around good day! The weather was beautiful, in spite of some rain. The whales even swam under the BOAT. This time last year, we didn't get our first keeper king until May 16th. Tj got his first king this year on May 3rd. Due to emergency king closure until June in our area this king was quickly released. I hope you enjoy watching.

I landed my first King of the season on June 18. It was a nice 18 pound feeder not nearly ready to spawn. It went into the box buried in lots of ice after being bled and gutted. I made a fantastic Grav Lox from the mid sections and we ate the shoulders and tails after cooking them on the BBQ. Life is good. Glad to see you respect the fish and did not net or put it on the deck. Wishing you a very successful season.

Top notch video guys, absolutely loved it. Quick question! Noticed you say something on fisherman's life about charter Hali it being under a certain size? What's the max size for halibut in Alaska?

Unguided you can keep 2 a day any size. Guided you can keep one a day 38 inches or less to the fork. This is for southeast area 2C. You can go further north and keep one under 40inches I believe and one any size guided. Our area gets hit pretty hard so they have tighter regulations on charter boats.

Cool! Glad he got to get out and get a line wet. We have had a tonnn of shaker kings around just starting to see the silvers show up in bigger numbers. Its been a tougher year since we have had very little rain.

The area we fish 2C is catch and release for kings until June 15th as of this year, 2019 and last, 2018. Alaska regulations allows targeting these fish as long as they are released with no harm done. We do not necessarily think kings should be targeted for catch and release for sportfishing charter vessels. However, the state of Alaska allows this.
