Hey, why not attach a 6-10 inch extension to the reel handle so you get more leverage and less strain on your wrists?

Fisherman's Life it’s so deep that might help. Tj said attach a drill to the reel. Haha maybe we can figure something out. The rod holders help too.

brett mehrer we tend to have our best luck in May off of deep rocky points in 4-6 hundred feet of water. We hope you can get on some. I think there are some good night squidding videos on the Tube from here in Ketchikan. We haven’t tried that yet. Had no problem getting them in the day tho.

Those are Humbolt squid. The preparation and cooking is different than the smaller market squid we have here in Cali. They are a little thicker, and a bit tougher as well. Great video!
@eriks95766 жыл бұрын
don't look like humbolt squid to me, unless they are juveniles....
@howdyhi996 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are juveniles. They get up to about six feet in length.
@oldmanandthesea33846 жыл бұрын
Didn't know they had made it that far north yet. Used to catch them in the Gulf of California.
@eliasher65285 жыл бұрын
They're not Humbolts. They're Magister Armhook squid, Berryteuthis magister. I've fished that same spot many times...electric reels and braid FTW. Edit: just saw the text on the vid...they're right on the ID. Humbolts' arms don't have hooks. These things will draw blood...
@jandenapoli4477 Жыл бұрын
These are Armhook squid, not Humboldt.

Do you only fish 200-300 feet so you don’t have to reel as much, or do the only live in that range? I’ve caught them at 300’, but that was at the bottom. I didn’t know they would be suspended in mid channel.
@tjjanalaska86743 жыл бұрын
We have had good luck catching them between those depths. The bottom here is between 500-1000ft. We prefer not to drop it to that depth if we don’t have to 😉. We catch them here In May and early June. Throughout the later summer months we have not had success catching them. It seems they have moved out or maybe 🤔 like you say moved deeper.

I see you discarding innards when cleaning the squid…… if you go crabbing and you discard innards instead of freezing it into blocks for crab bait than you are wasting it….
