Holy cow. You single-handedly answered all of my questions with regard to upgrading my BNC style Lorex system. My largest concern was the cable pull. Thank you. Great job and great quality video. I'm am now a new subscriber. Keep them coming!

Great video and great troubleshooting. Got to the root of the problem! Personally I went with swann 4mp nvr. It was $800 and I love it. Not 1 complaint. The app is great. Only had to run 1 rj45 cable to each camera. Each camera has audio and video recording. I was turned off by bnc wired dvr. Not to mention 1080 is not as good as my 4mp setup.

You do a really nice job with your videos. So easy to understand. Currently I am struggling with the decision of whether to buy the 2k I.P. cameras system. Major drop in price to about $700 for 8 cameras including the cables and , of course, the NVR.
@jmackinac6 жыл бұрын
Oh, and the price includes a full 5 years of warranty

You know.... You are F*&Kng genius! I ran the cable and mounted the DVR in the downstairs rec room. If i ran it, into my garage it would had been much easier and quicker. I could had ran a cable for my monitor in the living area. Damn!

Oh my, gosh, that is awesome. Thank you. So I'm in the same boat right now, need to upgrade my 720p Swann system. To a Lorex 1080p Im considering buying now. 👍
@handydadtv6 жыл бұрын
If I had to do it again, I would ditch the coax and get an IP system that uses CAT5 cabling. Don’t skimp on storage when you buy an HD system though. The better quality, the more gigabytes per minute they record. Go too small and it may only save a few days of video.

NVR systems are getting cheaper. I just ordered an 8 camera 1080p PoE system w/ 2gb for $499 on Amazon. This was just $50 more than their AHD coax system. Brand name is A- Zone. Hope it works out.

Great video, direct and to the point. I had one question..In the end of the video you compared DVR's to NVR's using the CAT5e cables. How would the quality be, if you were to use BNC to Cat5e converters? Will it increase stability and resolution? Thanks in advance.

I would have asked myself the same question...why didn't I just get 4k. But for what your using the cameras for and how clear they look 1080p is perfect! They really look great. I got a dash camera for my 2015 Civic Si. And said well I have a camera for my car...well 3 cameras including the 2 cameras that were already on the car. Why not for my house. Except I'm going to get the ptz dome camera also in the front. How much were the cameras from lorex that were 4k? I'm on a tight budget.
@douge11257 жыл бұрын
Chris Heider Oh, yea I know the ones you installed were 1080p. I was just asking what the price was for the 4k cameras compared to your 1080p. I really only need 1 camera so I can keep an eye on my dog while I work from inside my house in the living room or office. I have an in-ground pool and just dont Want her to be springting at full speed and disappear into the poo cover. i found the Wansview outdoor 1080p wifi camera. It has awesome picture! great night vision and is wireless and wired. one camera Is 70$ and it sound pathetic but I'm at a 50$ budget. Im trying to get a military discount on 1 single camera just for the back like a said so I can see my dog and make sure she's not getting herself into trouble. I was injured in combat so being able to see the cameras right on a monitor above my TV will help so much. that way I won't have to keep getting up and down and stressing my knee. Figured Wansview would just give me a camera haha. but they didn't obviously. none of the companies did. and 4 out of 5 of these companies that I emailed about a SINGLE camera wouldn't give me a discount on a 70-100$ camera. But yet they hand then out for amazon and youtube reviews. But not for someone who serves his country and was wounded in the process. Figure Nest could spare a camera haha...nope. Ring, samsung, Swann, Sony. non got back to me. Got a bit off topic sorry about that lol. Just very frustrating to see these shit reviews of a camera that they had gotten for free for an unbiased review of that camera. When I know I could do a much better job at reviewing and posting on youtube. Just need to learn how to edit. Wlell ty for the response. Happy znew

What system do you recommend new construction? Prewired for 8 cameras, 3 inside, 5 out. I'm pretty sure we used cat 5
@handydadtv7 жыл бұрын
It's great that you prewired CAT5. If you are okay with a 2K system (1080P), check out bit.ly/2tAIXYU which is an awesome 16-channel system that comes with 8 cameras (some bullet, some dome) that'll give you room to grow if you want to add cameras down the road. But the best bang for the buck would be to get a cutting edge 4K system, such as bit.ly/2vGGLjV, that has a mix of 4K and 2K cameras to keep the initial cost down. If money's not a concern, go for the top of the line bit.ly/2vGzqBe.

Hi great video was wondering what would one do if u have a flat roof , would I have to run my wires inside along my cealing
@handydadtv7 жыл бұрын
+Michelle Duvardt I would hate for you to run wires along your ceiling! I would rather have you run them outside the house, like I ran them outside hidden in my vinyl siding, or perhaps on the roof. Since it's a flat roof, they wouldn't be visible from the ground. But you would want to protect them from the sun in some kind of conduit.

Have you (or could you if you haven't) ever done a review of the Lorex/Flir user interface? I've had my 4 IP camera system for almost a year now and the interface seems super clunky and not user friendly at all. I got a Kuna camera for my front door and the UI is so much more intuitive and user friendly. My friends have the Nest and Arlo systems and they all seem way more intuitive than the Lorex system. Do they just not spend any money on software development or have they not seen the need for user friendly software?
@handydadtv7 жыл бұрын
+Garett McDermid I haven't reviewed the Lorex user interface. Good idea, but I rarely use it. I primarily use the app, which is much more intuitive.

lorex says that you can keep your normal DVR system.. & BNC cables but just change your 720P HD cameras to lorex 1080P HD camera's you don't need to reinstall any cables or upgrade your Hard drive. & you will receive high quality HD pictures & video saving you time & money... but with lorex 720p HD camera system this is a very good system. good reviews brilliant system.. to be honest why would you want to look at your neighbour cutting garden or be able to read number plates that's what it's not designed for it's for protecting your own property ?.

I needed to know the technology used for a Lorex DVR, I called tech support and they said it was " MPX TECHNOLOGY" I was doing a 16 camera install in a commercial building, the problem is that MPX does not exist,.. was i deceived, lied or given the wrong information by mistake?...by the way I am professional tech. in residential, commercial and Industrial surveillance systems :)
@handydadtv7 жыл бұрын
+Mynor Martinez As I understand it, MPX is a proprietary protocol where Lorex sends digital signals over analog BNC cables.

Thanks for the video. Let me ask, how is the app to view on your phone/tablet? Reliable? Easy to setup and navigate through functions? How about to view on a PC? I ask because I bought a Defender system and went through hours of bullshot trying to get it linked up with my computer and tablet...I eventually got the app to work intermittently but the PC end of it never worked, just kept telling me to load a plugin which I did a number of times. And I didn't want to deal with customer service morons so I literally threw it back into the box and returned it. Hoping the Lorex is easier...
@handydadtv7 жыл бұрын
+Fucknuts I have no issues with my Lorex system. I can use the app to see my cameras from anywhere in the world. When I work from home, I can keep the cameras visible on my Mac so I can keep an eye on the dogs. It's great. No complaints.

The Lorex MPX HD cameras are actually very LOW DEF cameras. And.. its not just the resolution... its the sensor size and quality. Lorex utilizes very low cost, low tech cameras made by Dahua. They are $30 cameras (which they sell for $60 for replacements), and considering the entire range of Dahua's camera line, they are bottom of the barrel. Sure, you can see a trashcan across the street... but can you ID who is digging though it, if you didnt know who they were? Heck No! Can you ID what the denomination of a US Bill is from 5 feet away? Barely. Most consumers and small businesses are cheap... they just want that nice $499.95 price at Costco. Fine, but dont expect high quality from these systems... I have installed 12 of them over the last 2 years... they are just... decent. A good 8 camera system, which is probably 3 times the shapness of image than these MPX Lorex, will set you back around $1400. Money well spent for a business that serious about security, and I would argue, money well spent for a home as well. You will never get a good quality system/components for "cheap". You will only get cheap for cheap.
@handydadtv7 жыл бұрын
+Survive The Attack! So it sounds like you're saying this system isn't the best, but it's a good value for the money. Especially for homeowners who think $500 is a lot of money and $1,400 is out of reach.
@jmackinac6 жыл бұрын
Exactly...we are consumers - not businesses. 90% of CCTV effectiveness is physical...a deterrent for those who see your cameras when walking onto your property. Secondarily, they can be effective at enterways as long as you have a good amount of light. These two uses significantly drop your chances of being burglarized to nearly zero.
