My uncle grew up next to their compound in Arkansas called “the Farm”. Locals would call the police on them often because they would hear multiple fully automatic weapons firing in the distance. From what he said they barely communicated with people from the outside world, except for a few alt-right groups like KKK and other white Christian cults. They were dismantled in Arkansas by the police and FBI. Waco had not happened yet so the FBI and Police didn’t take extreme measures. Apparently the cult thought it was going to get a relief force/reinforcements from other Alt-Right militias in Arkansas but all ceased communications with them. Ended peacefully with no assault on the compound.

Submachine guns are good if you wish to ambush small groups of opposition for one simple reason, and this is the what the vietcong did as well as the Red Army; To get as CLOSE as freaking posssible to your opponents in a fire fight. Why? So they cannot use there air and fire support. By staying as close to your enemy as possible...you strip them of airstrikes....artillery...guided missiles etc, making the fight a much fairer fight. I am just an armchair theorist though.
