VAPING: I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 30 years. The moment I inhaled nic salt vapor through a Juul device (5 years ago) I stopped smoking cigarettes. I still have the pack in my closet with 8 cigarettes in it. The wonder of vaping nic salt is that there is no TAR in it, so the lungs stay fresh. No wheezing. No stink. No coughing. No sinusitis. I live in TEXAS, so I can answer your question. There is a regulation to vaping, but it only occurs when receiving the product in the mail. No matter where it comes from, it takes about 7-10 days to get to me and someone arrives in a car (like door dash) and I have to sign for it. I also have to pay 9 dollars for that pleasure. The USPS wasn't touching vape, but last time it arrived through USPS and also required an adult signature (add $9). All over the USA there are restrictions on flavors that might draw children- like cotton candy and bubble gum. I use CLEAR or UNFLAVORED.

About HD video: I am a bit of a nerd on this subject. 24 vs 30 vs 60 fps: Most humans see accurately at about 24-25 hz. That is 24 fps on average. Some of us can see up to 35hz. For those of us gifted with real-time vision, 24 fps looks clunky. Interestingly, most people cannot see that quickly. Anything past 24 fps is gonna look strange to many people. Most animation and video games are timed to 24 hz for that reason. So for me, 24 fps is ideal. 1080p vs 4k and 8k. Honestly, most people do not have vision acute enough to see clearly beyond 225ppi(pixels per inch) So 8k is definitely overkill unless your screen is bigger than 70 inches. Pretty much the same with 4k. My vision has gotten a bit poor in my old age (40) and so 1080p is sharper than I can see. Knowing this, I only need 1080p @ 24hz to be able to see very clearly. Knowing this has saved me a bundle on building gaming PCs over the years. TLDR: That is the whole reason I know about this stuff.
@stvbrsn
@stvbrsn Жыл бұрын
“Most animation… timed to 24 hz for that reason. There’s a more fundamental reason for it actually. Fundamental to the machinery of filmmaking, traditionally. Early cinema (before sound) had varying frame rates, because no standard had been set. And it didn’t matter with silents, as long as the projection rate matched the filming rate. When sound came in, the industry settled on 24fps frame rate for motion pictures. And until digital came along it pretty much remained that way (with some exceptions). 24 fps has been the standard for sound motion pictures (which includes cel animation) since sound 1930. Of course, that’s all changed in the last 30 years, but yeah 24 seems to still be ideal, for a number of reasons.
@albertlevins9191
@albertlevins9191 Жыл бұрын
@@stvbrsn Yeah, exactly. That too. 👍 Interestingly, in the 1900s when 24fps became the standard, most animation was actually timed at 12fps. It wasn't until the 1990's when they started making animation at 24 fps consistently. Wasn't long after that when the HD revolution occurred.

Dont quite get this. If 24fps looks right and 60fps looks weird, why does a real-life object, moving across my visual field essentially at infinity fps, look normal?
@diabl2master
@diabl2master 2 ай бұрын
Also, my experience with gaming is my 144Hz screen was well worth it, looks more realistic and gaming at 24Hz looks really clunky. Are you sure it's not entrenchment?
@urbanpkrider31
@urbanpkrider31 Ай бұрын
24hz was adopted due to it being the slowest series of images that are able to give the illusion of continuous vision. Below that it starts to resemble a fast slideshow, which is completely disjointed with the way humans see in day to day life. We are perfectly able to see in 60hz and this is not a weird or strange feeling. It’s seamless in the same way that natural processes and motion in front of our eyes is. Above 60hz there is a negligible benefit in terms of vision fluidity, however screen reaction time can obviously be made faster for gaming etc. I suspect the Joe Rogan anecdote was simply that 60fps is viewed as more informal and puts videos in a format that is more akin to viewing them in person. This is probably quite jarring to many people and actually serves to remove a lot of the subjective pedestal that 24fps places on the subjects. I believe this is because 24fps almost appears to be taking place in an idealised reality due to the speed of imagery that doesn’t match our own in day to day life. When put in 60fps it humanises subjects tremendously, great for behind the scenes shots and informal formats, not so great for building an experience for fans.

I have so much to say on Liquid Death! They found a small hole in the market and brought a product to fill it. Liquid Death isn't about just having a can of water because their market isn't consumers but rather it's concert venues!! Think about it. If you don't want beer, wine, or mixed drink, all of which are probably in a can, you need to get a cup of water with a large open top. This is super annoying because it's easy to spill, takes longer to make, and is in a plastic cup which can't be recycled with all of the other cans at a venue. With a can if it's dropped or tipped not all of the contents comes out all at once so it doesn't make nearly as big of a mess. Chris how many times have you been cleaning up at the end of the night and had a mix of plastic and cans all over. I'm sure you didn't recycle it all but how much longer did it take behind the bar to serve just plain water rather that just cracking a can of water and handing it over. It's brilliant and it's silly that no one else tried to do canned water in a meaningful and cool way.
@wujekstalin1
@wujekstalin1 Жыл бұрын
If spilling concerns you then can is not optimal too. Just buy bottled water which you can seal and unseal. But it propably wont come in cool can that says death on it. IMO that's why its popular. On metal concert what will you drink? Death like a chad or just water like pussy ass bitch

When cable tv was first introduced as an alternative to regular television, they sold it as “ad-free” and we were happy to pay for the service. After a while, however, ads crept in to the point that the feed was filled with the same amount of ads, but still having to pay for the subscription. I don’t know if YT or other services will fall victim to this phenomenon but I will say - I don’t trust them. ‘Been deceived before.

Slightly incorrect on framerate: The human eye doesn't see at a certain framerate although vision/visual perception does operate at a variable rate depending on arousal--So if you are more jacked, you perceive things more granularly. 24/25 fps is what is used in films because it's what filmmakers in 19xx decided was the most aesthetically pleasing rate. In the US, TV is at 30 fps and film is on 24 fps, but in UK both are 25 I believe. Competitive gamers want max fps so they lower all their other settings. Pro gamers can easily tell the difference between 60fps 144fps 250fps etc.

About OpenGPR, I remember someone had asked it to generate an article about the history of the space program and it somehow came up with a totally plausible made up alternate history of "bears in space", including the different missions they had gone on, which ones died in tragic launch-pad accidents, etc. I think Rory is onto something, that it is a good mimic of descriptions of reality that exist out there in the world of the Internet, but it has no way of judging the objective truth of that description.

About the unpleasant feeling from a high frame rate/Hz, it is known as "soap opera effect". Some people keep their TVs on this default high frame rate, instead of setting it to "movie mode". That makes movies look like crap, and not only because high frame rates are historically associated with video/television instead of the 24 fps of analog film . The 24 fps standard feels dreamy and somewhat stylized in comparison with high definition video. Movies filmed in video/high frame rate look "too real", and so, fake...because movies are fake!. Plus, the TV is creating new frames by interpolation, which results in artifacts whenever are abrupt changes between frames, like in explosions or fast moving objects.

To the question Chris was asking about black and white thinking: 1. Nuanced thinking is difficult and is often uncomfortable because you have to stumble through your lack of knowledge and work really hard to understand complex topics. 2. Often times in matters of politics and the macro economy people in positions of power use complexity as a mechanism to deter questioning on any of their shady dealings. In many instances its actually very important to reduce big topics to the black and white portions because that's when we can determine what either person's true view on a topic is. The best thing that Trump has done for global politics is that we're all significantly more aware of when our politicians are giving non-answers

The third was 'Government House' in NYC, which was never used; As per act of Congress to form a better relationship with the Southern States, the year after construction began, the District of Columbia was created, and the Federal Government was to be housed for 10-years in Philadelphia while D.C. was built. President John Adams served 11 of his 12-years in Office at various residences in Philadelphia, spending only his last year at the White House. 1600 Pennsylvania Ave has since been the Official Residence of the Chief Executive of the Federal Government, including Lincoln during the Civil War.

That would be good. And probably for the best that I’m not doing the interview, because every question would be about Scott Pilgrim.

Protein Pancakes!🤣BRILLIANT. Stopped me dead in my tracks with that analogy. So relatable. And yet, I still buy them when they're on heavy discount thinking this time will be different.

Nah, the reason people didn't like the Joe Rogan new set is the first thing you said! It looked like some dark, cramped weird dungeon instead of a more specious light relaxed setting...

Biggest issue with VR I think is the very latest games are not designed or released for it. The new Hogwart’s game looks amazing. If that was in VR I think people would be jumping for it. The tech might not even be able to do a game like that though yet.

Locomotion is the biggest barrier to Vr. You can't sell immersion to a person locked in a tight space
