Solo winter mountain camp in my Hilleberg Allak.
After being unwell and not being out for 4 weeks I decided to get out for a night in the mountains in my new tent, the Hilleberg Allak 2. A relatively short hike from the car park brought me to the summit of Robinson at just over 2400ft. Freezing temperatures saw some snow in the night but the skies eventually cleared and made for a beautiful morning in the mountains. A 6 mile (9.6km) walk with 1800ft (548m) of ascent.
Many thanks for watching - Dave

You’re 100% definitely not alone Dave. You may live in a house on your own but you have us, and we have you. We’re not virtual friends; we are real people and we love being part of what you do. Christmas is over hyped and is only one day anyway, so don’t let that spoil a good chance to get out there while it’s beautiful and peaceful. Stay safe pal and keep your sense of humour alive and kicking. We’re all around you. ✊

Aww, lovely post Tim. I'm not alone, I'm lucky enough to have a wonderful husband and family around me but I totally agree with what you say about us all being there for Dave. I love his videos of his mountain camps and live vicariously through them as I'm not sure I'll ever achieve one. Dave, you have a family here on KZbin and Instagram and don't ever forget that. Dave, my fellow kindred spirit, remember, you are never alone. I'm 74, have 4 children, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren (and a wife who has gone on that long tramp to beyond the sunset) I get to see them from time to time, but they are all busy leading their own lives. I am up in the mountains doing my own thing, so being alone can have a different meaning depending on one's view. I am just happy that I can still carry a heavy pack and fit enough to climb the mountains. You are doing the right thing in going into the mountains, they will keep you sane, and when the rest of your Neighbours are stressing out on how to pay the Christmas bills you will be in your tent relaxing with a smile on your face, I have had a lifetime in the hills (as an instructor and guide) and have never felt lonely. This year alone I have done 63 tramps and 40 of them solo. Believe me, you will never ever regret going into the hills. They saved me. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀

Awesome trip Dave. Nobody thinks your views on Christmas are miserable. I feel the same. I like the old traditional stuff but I've had some really bad stuff happen and I just feel sad. It's the commercialisation and the fact it's difficult to avoid. Anyhow good to see you out and about. As yer mate the Beavers would say, you're a top bloke. So say all of us.

Just caught up with this superb video Dave, I tend to save them for a few days before watching. Robinson means a lot to me as it was a walk I did 3 years ago after new neighbours moved in and they were a nightmare, I escaped for the day and walked Robinson, Dale Head and back down following Newlands river to Little Town. Fortunately we moved to Norfolk 2 years ago, though it's a bit far from the lakes. By the way, I know you're into waterfalls like me, there's a superb one on the Newlands river from Dale Head tarn if you ever descend that way in the future, you won't be disappointed. Look after yourself.

It doesn't get much better than that, does it?! Fantastic video, Dave and incredible drone footage even before the cloud cleared to reveal that astonishing vista. Glad you stuck around for it! And you're so right about the wind making a heck of a difference - it can make or break a walk, let alone a camp. I did laugh though, only you could say I'm doing an easy one while standing in front of a hillside steeper than 45 degrees! Sorry to hear you've been poorly and I know what you mean about Xmas. Even with a family it often doesn't mean anything. We treat it like a normal day. To me, you decide what days are special, not just because it's a date in the diary. I like your idea of doing lower ones in winter with the full kit - I'm sure you'll discover some cracking spots and hills, even if they're not that high. Try Castle Crag in Borrowdale - one of the smallest but on a clear winter's day, the views are amazing. There's lots to choose from and some will be new ground... and no doubt a few to bag, not that you're a bagger of course! Best wishes for next year and look forward to lots of videos.

Alreet again pal just catching up on a couple of your vids haha... Love the frost sitting on top of Grasmoor that looked cool. Definitely couldn't complain about that pitch pal had superb views and saw you had the Alak on Insa was wondering on your thoughts.. Bet its great for winter camps, I was in my Soulo 2 nights ago for about 14 hours and after a bit I was going nuts waiting for the sunrise this time of year 🤣🤣 Although I love my Soulo too and never lets me down. I had my Montane Prism down boots the other night too they always keep my feet toasty in the sub zero temps 👌🏻 Man such amazing views for your brew 😍😍 Your channel is one of my absolutely favourites on here mate 100% Your videos are superb, you're such an awesome guy and I hope we finally get to have that camp in this year. Hi Dave. 3.3kg doesn’t feel heavy when it’s pitched and you are sitting in a virtual palace for 14 hours lol. Worth every gram in winter! I also have the trekker chair. It’s a great little bit of luxury and comfort to use on longer nights. Only one thing I have noticed is the back panel struts do push very hard downwards when you are leaning back on it. So be careful in soft ground in particular as it can really dig into the tent floor. I normally through someone under it to spread the load just to be safe! Cheers mate and a belated happy Christmas.

Thanks, Dave, for another inspiring and brilliant video. I love what you do and it's so great to sort of join you on your adventures. Even if it's normally sitting in front of the log burner. Sounds like you have had a very tough few years. I hope you can enjoy peace and joy in the outdoors over the holiday season.

Absolutely beautiful stuff Dave, as we have all come to expect. This is one I'll be watching again for sure. Keep on keeping on my man. Life keeps coming but, your work here is a gift to us all. I have a young family myself, and even then, Christmas takes its toll oh boy..! Regardless, the end of a year is always a time for reflection- and can get heavy too, especially if you've had tragedy or rough times in recent months as my family have. We're not here for a long time, but here for a good time are words to remember! Keep being you and have a great end to the year and beyond ATVB!! 🙏🏕️

@@TheSoloSummiteer no, you’re right, its very wet. Went Peak District today on a Andrew Beavers walk and got bloody soaked, found somewhere to shelter to make a brew and realised I’d forgotten my stove😖. Still, dog seemed to enjoy it. Having a look around Darwin tower tomorrow, couple days and it will all be back to normal 👍. Hope you have a enjoyable Christmas Dave

Glad to see ya out and about again after feeling poorly 🙌. Hopefully you'll feel 100% again after some RnR over the festive period 🙃 🙂. The weather has been so cold, but luckily its been clear, the background looked fantastic when you was on the summit at 2400 feet 😀. I entered the comp for the tent Haze was raffling off, I don't think I won as I bought the ticket on the 22nd November lol 😅. I actually didn't know they weighed that much. Always a pleasure to watch your drone footage....awesome 👌. That's one thing I think we all would like, to be able to have back support when sitting up in our tents. did I see Shakespeare sister (stay with me) on your Playlist? I loved that tune when it came out, I still do tbh ha! Well done on your 100th video 📹 👏. Wow the weather certainly did change in the morning, almost a whiteout 😲. But the drone pics sorted that out when rising above the clouds and then it cleared for them views again 👍 👌 I know it's not for you as you said in your video, but I'd feel rude not saying it, so have a merry Christmas and a very happy new year 🎉 😊. I don't have much, but if you ever wanted company at this time of year, or anytime of year, you'd be more than welcome here buddy, even for just a bacon sarnie 🥪 😊. see you on your next adventure, thanks for sharing ✌️ 🤟 (apologies for the long essay lol 😆)

Wonderful video thankyou. Just a point on the trekker chair. I also use one and love it but one thing that noticed was the indentation marks it left on my z lite mat because there is so much downward pressure where the corners of the support poles meet. since then I am hesitant to use it directly on top of my tent groundsheet. Best wishes for 2023

Great film Dave. Drone shots are ace. Makes the Lakes look so much smaller than when you are on the ground. Loving that new tent, rather have the extra weight to give you the bit of extra comfort. Christmas is overrated anyway. I'm sat here on the 23rd with a list of cleaning jobs and tasks to get the house ready for a day I'd rather skip. Loneliness doesn't just impact solo living. I'm here with 4 people and 2 dogs and I'm as lonely as I've ever been. You have the right frame of mind. You don't have to please anyone but yourself. Enjoy the time off work, have a few drinks and dance alone, it's great, especially to a bit of David Guetta. Get on on your Mountain bike for hours without guilt and take as long as you like in the shower. Living with people is overrated too! Take care mate and all the best to you!

Hey Dave. Fantastic video. Looks beautiful. I haven’t really seen many of your videos but I’ll certainly watch them. I’m not an expert on wild camping but watching videos like yours makes me really want to go out and do it. I know it won’t be as easy as just getting up and taking off with a tent. I need to know what I’m doing first, but would love to give it a try sometime in the new year. Finally, you’re not alone mate.

Good to see you back out again Dave, another good un..👍🏻 I’m still waiting to do my snow camp, hopefully I’ll tick mine off in January! I’m totally with you there, I’d much rather be at the top of a hill/mountain than in the shops at this time of year!.. That new tent is like a palace inside, although not sure I’d choose to lug up that kind of weight up there like you did, personally. 😬 Glad to hear your keeping your Soloist though, still really enjoy being out in mine.. I have brought myself a new tent (a Helm Compact 1) recently, for this time of year and spending 16hrs in during the night, still only a smallish 1-man shelter - but with more overall headroom, which really makes a difference spending these long cold nights inside.
