If you want to make it warm. Go to a feed store and buy about 15-20 bales of hay. Stack them all under the outer edge of your trailer and your lines will not freeze. I had a destination trailer some years ago and that helped alot

Add a metal skirt all around your trailer, then put the hay bales in front of the skirt. Get insulating foam mat and put it under your rugs and in the "garage" under your bed. Keep your curtains closed if not using the windows. You should had thermal curtains for the winter. Good luck! 😊

You need to get trailer skirts to go around the whole bottom of the trailer with a small heater, not to make it too hot but enough that the warmth keeps the area from freezing and keeps the lines open (Like wrapping the whole area in a sweater) and not to freeze plus never let the water tanks go below 75% in winter if you plan to be in colder areas just a suggestion from someone who lives in Canada.
@Meghanandmatt8 күн бұрын
thanks for the tips! We didn't originally plan on being in the cold this long so skirts weren't on my radar until now. Stay warm!

@@Meghanandmatt There is also what people do in houses. You run hot water through the lines and into the tank. Since plumbing is inside, it shouldnt be too difficult to do. Run a T (with shutoff) from hotwater line that through goes from back to the tank. then convert elbow into water tank into T that allows from fill up from outside but also drain hotwater into tank.

My landlord told me when the temp is below freezing to keep the cabinet doors open in the kitchen and in the bathroom and the pipes will not freeze.. It works.. They also make heating pads for under your rv.. If you can get insulation that is 2in thick and put it from the bottom of the rv to the ground then you can put a small lamp under the rv near where the water lines are and that will keep them from freezing.. It does help a lot.. When you have a rv and wind is blowing under the rv , that will make the inside colder.. Just put anything from the bottom of the rv to the ground bales of hay will work also..

I insulated my RV (same size as your Airstream) with the Havelock Van Wool and heated batteries and water tanks wit simple heating pads and have had zero issues getting to 72 inside and preventing freezing. What you missed is to skirt the Airstream!!! Skirt it and your tanks would likely not freeze and you'd be far less miserable. Don't forget, Havelock van wool. I have no affiliation with them to be clear.
@Meghanandmatt7 күн бұрын
Yeah it looks like we should do something about the skirts. We also used havelock wool throughout the walls but the floor we used rockwool. I’m going to see if I can find some packable skirting since we’re going to hit the road soon

Please look for small river stones that can be warmed in the sauna. Put them in a metal pail, and when you leave the sauna, place them under black water to keep them warm through the night. You could do the same for indoor water sources, with miniature pails with a hot pad or trivet to prevent surface burns.
@Meghanandmatt3 күн бұрын
That’s a really good idea! Thank you for the suggestion
@almadeckard83602 күн бұрын
@@Meghanandmatt, If you had some leftover Rockwool insulation, you could extend your time by warming rocks. You don't need any hot pads or trivets, then. Rockwool is used in forges with plaster Paris. Kaowool or ceramic wool all take high heat.

If you need to thaw it out still look at the local rental places around and ask if they have a Kerosene/Diesel bullet heaters. It would suck to have the grey water tank split and crack. The deeper the freeze the more likely that is to happen.

The hottest we’ve gotten it to is probably 170°F. The highest temp reading I’ve ever gotten was 164°F before the glass thermometer was too hot to handle. Some reviews say they’ve gotten over 200°F. It definitely is dependent on what kind of wood you use and how dry it is.
