Florida native here, I’d say that was a good little first hurricane for ya to see how it works. What happens is it’s bands of storms hitting you with high winds as the storm is rotating and I think of it as spinning around with your arms out and it’s like the arms hitting you over and over until it’s gone. Tip: if you ever buy a house down here in florida, try not to be in a flood zone cuz flood insurance can be as expensive as a mortgage payment. And I also wouldn’t suggest being right on the water cuz of not only the very expensive flood insurance but also the storm surge when it’s hurricane season. Which is the water level rising a lot.

I live in New Orleans and am very familiar with how miserable staying through a hurricane is- please consider getting a generator to run a fridge and box fan or small AC unit if you're going to stay through a big storm because it gets so hot it's...........indescribable. This was me last year! In school my Geography teachers told us that as South Africans we would never need to worry about earthquakes because of where we are positioned on the tectonic plates. I lived so freely thinking I'd never encounter a natural disaster... September 2020 came around and we had 3 in Cape Town within 48 hours (two 3.4 magnitude and one 3.8). To people from other countries that might be small but for me it was such a shock and I went absolutely mad because I had no clue what was happening. I was also scared about if we were going to have a tsunami because I live right by the beach. In conclusion, my teachers lied to me, 2020 tested me and I don't know why people live in California.

I'm grateful to not be living in the main areas that are affected, but we were just notified that it might start where I live soon. It really has rattled us all and our economy might not recover leaving so many more people jobless. It's difficult to imagine why anyone would support someone who made false promises, stole millions from our country and was involved in so much corruption. We truly need God to make a move 🙏

Of course it was 2020 😭 But as a California native, I'd infinitely rather take earthquakes than the hurricanes of Florida (tbh I'm in southern California, so our bigger issue here is wildfires, earthquakes are so rare for us). In California schools, we do earthquake drills every year and get pamphlets and things to take and practice at home, and a lot of infrastructure is built to be resistant to earthquakes. Still, I remember experiencing my first earthquake at like 7 or 8 years old and not knowing what was going on! It's definitely frightening!

As someone who lives close to St Pete, you did good for your first hurricane!! Pinellas county typically doesn’t get hit too bad by the hurricanes. Usually the power doesn’t go out and if it does they get it on pretty quick. I LOVED the mean girls reference 😊

“i’m so prepared i feel like a native floridian”😭😭😭 Sam as a native floridian we don’t flinch at tropical storms or hurricane until they get to atleast a level 3. pro tip tho once may comes around start stocking up on water, canned goods, flashlights and batteries, propane cookers, and FANS. that way you always have your hurricane supply and if it does ever get bad (which the hurricanes have never rlly been all that bad to me and i love in SoFlo) you’re already prepared and won’t panic ❤️

Hi as native Floridan, 1. Welcome and 2. You were in the hurricane. The hurricane is the whole thing, what you were tracking was the eye (center) of the hurricane. Which is where the strong winds are. Most Floridan don’t panic or really take them seriously until they’re a cat 3 and are in direct line of us.

Its so interesting seeing comments and videos of people that are not used to events like this. Here in the Caribbean we are "curaos' del espanto" because of many hurricanes that had hit our island. 💀 Even if we all preparated, I believe everyone is scared of what could happen. My sinuses are chronically bad and whenever there’s a major storm It’s much worse. I’m like a human barometer lol. I recall riding out hurricane Jeanne in my old tiny crappy apartment. We got a direct hit here in melbourne and that apartment made the scariest noises for sure. We got lucky with this one and I hope that luck continues! when I was younger my grandma always put butter in my tea when I was sick and it tastes really gross but it helps for sore throat and some for congestion. You just put like 1 tablespoon of butter and a little honey or agave and it should help.

Hey Sam 😊 I am from Germany and we don't have Hurricanes here. And where I life most of the time the weather does not come to us it goes to the nearby villages and we have nothing. Like there basements are flooded and we have just a little bit of rain. I am glad that our basement stays dry all the time but I wish just a bit more rain and thunder in my village ⚡☔💧🌧️😔
