It's usually a tradition that space should be found for all comers at bothys. Only walk out if it's a personal decision, but bothys are not first come first served.
@Heksu99Ай бұрын
At least in Finland, we have rule in open wilderness huts, that there either is room for everyone, or the first one to arrive is the first to leave. Of course, reasonable thing is that, if you have been there for an hour, you don't have to leave, but then you just have to fit in. Leave backpack outside, do as much outside as possible in the weather. During season, you shouldn't count on that there is room, and always have tent as a backup. Or you can rent a hut if you want to stay longer, or be sure you have a place.
@SD-oi9grАй бұрын
I’ve never seen a bothy so small that only 2 people can fit inside… there was plenty of room. The whole point of a bothy is the whole community aspect of mucking in together and having a laugh.

I must admit I was surprised that people in the bothy didn't just let you stay clear those chairs and you two would have been okay. I'm just glad it wasn't raining or really cold otherwise you could have been in real risk. In the Scottish bothies, people share all the time with no problems.
@LTT.OfficialАй бұрын
I think their extra circular activities would have kept the boys awake.
@dr2165Ай бұрын
Same everywhere, very rude not to share and if the weather had been bad if I'd have told them to do one and that i was staying regardless a bothy isn't a B&B its a shelter for those in need.
@WhiskyMechanicАй бұрын
I've spent over a hundred nights in various bothies including the one featured in this video. My rule is a bothy is never full. Two could have slept upstairs and the others slept downstairs.
@bexxy629Ай бұрын
@@WhiskyMechanic Yep completely agree if you want a quiet place to have some alone time as other commenters said pay for a glamping pod, the whole point of bothies are a shelter to sleep, to be warm and safe, a communal shelter not a private villa. this is funny here but in winter this could be serious, as someone who has slept under a basha in a wet puddle in winter in a bivvy bag (army) and had the fun experience of mild hypothermia and seen the effects of more extreme hypothermia, this could have been deadly in other circumstances.

Within 30 seconds of the start I knew where you were (Talybont end of Y Das, why go up the hard way?!), knew where you were heading (Gwyrne Fawr Bothy), knew you'd find it full (it's one of the most popular bothys in the country thanks to being an easy walk from the other side from a car park) and knew you wouldn't know about the wild camping spot at the end of the dam (there's cover, dry ground and usually a tarp wrapped up). I grew up near there and spent many summer weekends round there on foot and mountain bike, staying in that bothy countless times. Haven't done so for years though as it is now so unbelievably popular it's hard to find it empty.

You guys should go to Galloway National Forrest. It's absolutely incredible. I went with my cousin a month ago, we walked 58km over 3 and a half days. Started at Clatteringshaws and walked all the way to Merrick and back. We had no plan of where to pitch a tent, no idea about parking. When we got there I asked a farmer if it's safe to leave a car for a few days and he said to leave it outside his house (what a nice guy, came to talk to us for ages when we got back too). We found a little beach on one of the lakes and camped there the whole time, in one day we walked 10 hours straight and got to Merrick and back in time to pitch the tent. I'd definitely recommend that place, its spectacular and we hardly saw people the entire time we were there.
