I used to feel excluded from thanksgiving so a few years ago I started a new tradition where I host a completely vegan Friendsgiving and now I don’t even care about the actual thanksgiving day because I’ve already had my all vegan thanksgiving! 🤍 my guests aren’t vegan but I love when they comment about how much they love certain dishes and desserts!

The holidays are so tough. One year a while ago I was hosting and hadn't put any boundaries out so people thought it was my job as a host to ensure there's turkey 😔

You should make it clear that flesh foods aren't tolerate 😊 don't be afraid to voice your belief. Animals only have us to fight for them.

I always love your perspectives as long time vegans. I’m the only vegan in my family and friend group and I always feel like your my vegan “big sisters”

I've been lucky and not have my family and friends be like that towards me. I cleared that up for years ago, when I told them they need to respect my choices, as I respect theirs and nothing should be said unless it's positive.

Interesting... but if you are ethical vegan how is it possible to respect others' choice to continue to cause unwatchable violence and harm? The word would be tolerate out of necessity rather than respect

I'm having a solo Thanksgiving this year and am excited! Weirdly I get the most snotty comments from my sister (who went vegetarian when I did 30 years ago but didn't join me when I went vegan). Her husband and his family only heard that I was vegan once and right away switched their cooking (Indian vegetarian, but they started cooking without ghee and serving it on the side). I know in my sister's case she feels guilty. But nobody will bother me this Thanksgiving! HAHAHA

My comeback is to jokingly say, "You animal eater!" like it's some kind of slur...or shake my head and say, "animal eaters." They always laugh.

I def recommend therapy. I recently started b/c I was getting upset at family gatherings, especially around the holidays. The ladies in the vid give some good general tips, but having someone who knows you and is on your side but not directly involved is very helpful for navigating life and the challenges posed by our conflicting values.

I'm lucky that my family doesn't treat me that way. My sister hosts holidays, and always has something vegan, and I always volunteer to bring the salad, so I'm good. We went to my husband's brother's this year, and it was a 4 1/2 hour drive, and we went down, and came back the same day. I packed a Tofurkey sandwich to eat on the way down. We didn't stay long, and we had vegan Thanksgiving yesterday.

10,000 times yes to declining invitations to events that make you uncomfortable. Why torture yourself because it’s “tradition?” Edited to add: If you choose to attend an event but need to opt out of a certain activity, do it. For example, if eating at a table with dead bird makes you nauseous, why not step out to a vegan friendly restaurant for an hour? People who are mean about it can take a hike.

Yeah, the turkey on the table. Sitting there with this f***ing corpse on the table, while people talk happily about that and the other dead animal bits at the "feast". I like the talking happily part, but all the dead stuff is a real downer. Been doing this 10 years now, so I'm used to it, and everyone's used to me, but the fact of it remains, and is difficult. I always bring a vegan dish or two, anyway. I like gathering, the meal ... eh.

They (family) "don't know" because they don't want to know. All it would take to know is a 10 minute google search. They're not interested enough in you to do that - and you know why? Cause deep down, they know. They just don't want to know, you know?

Yeah .... I hate it but when i see what animals have to go through... I just stop worrying and start focusing on good things i can eat
