A few lifetimes ago, my husband and I got a job cleaning out the storm sewers in a newly constructed subdivision. The village wanted about a thousand pounds of wet construction clay removed from the storm sewers before they would annex the subdivision. All my husband and I had to work with was a one gallon bucket tied to a rope. Early one morning, when the construction crews were pulling onto the job, my husband and I came crawling up out of the storm drain. We looked like the mud monster from the movie "The World Beyond". After we explained what we were doing in the sewer, someone yelled, "Call Mike Rowe!" 😂

When my now husband and I had just started dating, we were driving to a restaurant, both dressed nice. (He was hot. Lol) It was raining hard. I saw something in a ditch and told him. He slowed down. A cow was stuck in mud in a ditch. We both got out without saying a word. He got his rope out of the truck, I got the shovel out of his toolbox. We worked together and got this cow out. He was pulling her, I was pushing. Right when we heard the sound of the mud releasing her, she pooped all over me as she came up. It was not pleasant. My boyfriend checked out the cow and made sure she wasn't hurt. Checked on me. I told him I would be alright but I need a shower, fast. He called the owner of the cow who came to get her. My boyfriend helped fix the fence as I stood in the rain and got as much ick off of me as possible. My boyfriend had coveralls in his toolbox and gave them to me. I changed in his truck. He got back in the truck and said, "Well, that was a shitty start to our date. We're Mike?" I didn't know what he meant. He took me back to his house and told his mother I needed clothes and he wanted to show me Dirty Jobs. I wore his mother's sweats and we watched Dirty Jobs with his parents while my icky clothes were washed by his mom (I told her I could wash them she told me no. Lol) My husband tells me that was the night he told his dad that I was the one. 🤣 (I remember that he told his dad to skip an episode. Found out later it was the horse insemination one. Lol)

@@keekers That's a great first date story, and the fact that ya'll wound up getting married, and are still together makes it all the better ! On another note, fortunately for you, cow manure is mostly composed of what amounts to half digested grass, it's not quite as bad as others animal poo. It's still pretty gross though, it wouldn't be as humorous though had it been from something other than a ruminant animal !

@@keekers Oh my goodness!!!! 🤣 Thank you for that awesome story!!!! It sounds like mine and my husband's (then boyfriend) first date!! It was a prom date, so we were dressed to the nine's too. Except, ours wasn't a cow, it was his car. He pushed with mud flying everywhere while I gave it gas. He had on a rented tuxedo and didn't want it to get ruined, so he took everything off except the bowtie. I wasn't allowed to turn around, but I peeked. 😂 He was hot too!!! When I got home with my prom dress and bare feet covered in mud, he started calling me his muddy-toed girl.

the opinion of a stranger sometimes means more that people realize. i work in logistics, since 1993. at my current job (since 2001) i make a point of expressing positive feedback to those who deserve and earn it during the course of my day. over the years, i have been asked "really, are you serious? i'm doing a great job?. i don't know you". but that's the point - if someone you do not directly work with (in the same department) compliments you on your focus and execution of your job it's a good, honest thing. i don't NEED to tell you what your job quality is, but yes, i am a stranger. i have no reason to jerk you around. people get it, if they ask me why and i explain why. my positive feedback may decide if that person comes back to work tomorrow, and i think that is all the more reason to say "good job". we need to hear we are on the right track, that our toil is not in vain. great show, mike.

There are things far more important than money and accolades for what we do or who we are. Finding peace of mind has been my most worthwhile accomplishment but even that is fleeting, in most trying times. I am and have been an asshole to both friends and loved ones but have mellowed somewhat over the last 30 years. To answer what drives us to desire strangers to like us, I can sum it up simply being that we want universal unconditional love. The irony is that we are loved unconditionally but, asking for every human being to give us such gift, just isn't possible to fulfill... ...because human beings are involved. The peace of mind comes with the responsibility to remember that we are so loved. Awesome show, by the way, thanks for putting yourself out here for target practice.

What brand shirt is that? I need me some more American made shirts! also Mr. Rowe! I just got my first job as a mechanic for John Deere after getting my degree in welding. I'm going back for AG diesel tech and already got the ball moving on my LLC. Thanks for being the best worse influence in my life. God bless and all things for His glory.

I love the movie too! I've always said, when the critics give a movie a bad review, I usually love it . 😂

COCKTAIL is an awesome CHICK FLICK. I loved it! If you had a woman on with you, she would have known the movie.

Mike… when you said “We shot that in a way it wasn’t annoying…..” my Irish grandmother would say, “Look, he’s throwing roses at himself again”. Ha! Mike you have the best voice…. I loved that movie Cocktail but I was 19 years old at the time.

Amazing audio. Can you share the equipment details that make you both sound so great? I'm a sound guy, and would love to know.. Great episode, as usual!

Here’s a REVIEW: You do a wonderful job!! Your Channel popped up in my stream this weekend. I did not immediately recall “Dirty Jobs” from the past, but those memories came together fast! I have though exactly the same about education & all the time for a 4 year degree.. The income was best as a Contractor etc. Ok… Again Great Job!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💎💎💎💎💎 ** Those offensive & rude critics launch negative energy… Words have power. Truth is important & it appears to me that many lie or exaggerate in the negative to cause apprehensive responses.

The sentiment over the credit in DJ's was compelling - I couldn't help but see the parallel between Mike Rowe and the workers you profiled; you carried a production, it doesn't happen and isn't a "money-making operation" w/out you, an employee that dedicates themself to a company should be recognized and given the financial reward and credit due by the company ownership without having to drag their tired butts into an office to complain. It's the way Hollywood works, but more importantly it's now the way American corporations work. "Do everything, say nothing, get nothing" is the perfect employee.

Let's be honest Mike....there are no "spoilers" in this podcast because that would mean that there was something to "spoil". in 88" I was graduating high school and the movie was nothing compared to "Rain Main" or "Die Hard". Those movies I remember very well!!

These conversations always remind me of Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story". Thank you for these. I am still thankful to this day to have never watched that movie. Cruise still remains one of my least favorite people in the world. Personal and professional.

I watched the behind the scenes promos for this MI sequel, where Tom Cruise is actually filmed while watching the shot of the motorcycle cliff jump he just did , and says: "I want to do another take. I think I can hold on to the bike for longer." Because he wanted to make the scene even more cool. You can hate or like him, or both, but you can't say he doesn't love movies.
