Surviving Ringworm

3 жыл бұрын

This time at Ringworm the numbskulls in hot water on purpose. Ry's girlfriend, Sara finally breaks away from the real world and dives deeply into the wooded world of chainsaws and swamp water. Being the guest, she gets to choose how she will spend her days on the remote, Michigan property. Almost without thinking about it she replies, "shoot stuff and sit in the hot tub." Such simple requests!
Since there is no road to Ringworm the tub was dragged in with the four wheeler many months ago while there was still snow on the ground. All that needed to be done for the first hot soak was to do was clear a small, reasonably flat area, level the tub on four cinder blocks and break out the Ryobi pump and hoses to fill the tub from the swamp. Then the fire! (In the years before the two twits found out that Ryobi sold a water pump that ran off regular drill batteries, they just brought along a couple 5 gallon buckets and took turns carrying water from a creek or pond.)
Is there a cheaper, quicker, easier way to build a wood-fired hot tub? We highly doubt it!
This tub has been used for years in the woods- stashed remotely in different parts of Michigan's wildernesses. As long as there is some small source of water nearby (or even several feet of snow to shovel in and melt), the horse trough, errr...HOT TUB can be fired up in a few hours and enjoyed even in the dead of winter.
If you have never been way out in the wilderness and had a 102 degree soak when there is three feet of snow on the ground and temps are bone chilling cold, you need one of these!
Because I’ve gotten so many questions about the gear that I use on the channel, here are some of the most important pieces I use every day:

I appreciate your honesty... like a reality TV show without the "100% BS " haha. Just recently started your journey and loving it. Reminds me of my grandpa's "measure one, cut twice" policy, along with his "we gotta fix our F up... where lese you gotta be?"

What if you buy one of those sealed cell foam pool noodles, cut it open and slide it over the tub edge so you can comfortably lay your head on the edge. But this will push your head forward from the wall of the tank so i am not sure it will be comfortable.

There seemed to be an unusual amount of precision on the hot tub installation that is uncommon for Ringworm.

Hello, I’ve been enjoying your videos so much! I’m planning to build a similar cabin to your deer palace on some very swampy land in Ontario so thanks for the inspiration. Can you tell me what kind of water pump you have there? I want to set up “running” water fir my parents when they’re out at the camp.

I am an enormous fan of Ryobi battery-powered tools. Notice every cordless tool I have is green? Drills, saws, blower, sanders, grinders, water pump- all use the same batteries. Great tools for the $. Home Depot sells them. They have HD in Canada?
@rebeccahouston9854
@rebeccahouston9854 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we have HD and Ryobi but we’re a DeWalt family so I’d have to meditate on bringing in a new battery system. It would be very useful though! Thanks.

You guys are great! Just discovered your channel. My wife thinks you guys are hilarious as well. We are Michiganders also and just bought some property in Northern Mi. in January and are doing some similar stuff in our woods, cutting and milling building a camp not to the level you guys are at I mean we can only dream of a hot sauce treasure chest and a vat of bathing cheese!

We all do need to have our dreams, don't we? Man, a vat of lab cheese would be magical. Especially wood-fired. What kind of boat is that in the pic? I lived on a sailboat for 6 years before moving back to Michigan. Can't say I miss it because of all the work but it was still a great time.

Livestock feeders are galvanized with a zinc coating, when zinc is heated it puts off a gas which is highly toxic and can cause acute metal fume fever, in my trade you see many who have worked with galvanized surfaces and have symptoms similar to those of Parkinson's. Most welders don't live to be old partly because many are ignorant of the danger of welding, grinding and heating galvanized materials.

It’s been a year since this was published... now that you have a bottom fired hot tub, consider the lesson learned from the following gentleman. Using his style of heater you could adapt it into heating your IBC tote of water in the winter to keep things flowing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/anuplXd_iah7Y5o Alternatively, your stock tank could be plumbed to utilize the the coils as well. Using a burn barrel or metal garbage can to contain the coils and fire you could start a fire and leave it while accomplishing other tasks. Cheers mate.

Question! 1. Is that galvanized steel? I thought galvanized steel gave off toxic fumes when it's heated? Please let me know thanks. Also 2. what are the dimensions of the hot tub? And can you tell us where you got the tub? 3. Finally, where can we get a pump like that and hoses like that? This was a great video and we've been wanting to do this for a long time. Thanks
@coleencullen5269
@coleencullen5269 Жыл бұрын
Galvanized does give off fumes. But only the first maybe second time it's heated. So it needs to be burnt off before using it and staying within close proximity of it.
