Definitely unexpected. I thought if any of the early boots returned they wouldn't have any shot at winning because they have been put of the game for a long time. But I've been proved wrong. Chris giving up the immunity necklace was actually the best (and riskiest) move of the season, deserved the win. I never thought giving up the immunity necklace would actually benefit someone like that

I can't fault Chris at all for this one. He was given very high demands of what he needed to do to win the season, and he played those 3 days he returned for like a mastermind. Good on him, he adapted to the circumstances and went balls to the wall and I respect him for it. I think what most people are frustrated about is the idea of players coming back into the game after they've been voted out. Sure Edge of Extinction is an interesting twist and all, but have people really ever wanted something like this to reappear? Redemption Island was an uninteresting and dull mechanic that failed in RI and SoPa, only working in BvW because of the effect it had on loved ones. EOE is made even worse by extending the time pre-merge boots can spend there, not keeping the mechanic in 2 separate rounds. I really don't think people would be complaining as much about this twist had Reem, Aubry, and Chris never been part of the jury, and never had the shot to re-enter the game after Devens won the first re-entry challenge. No shade on Chris who did what he had to do to win, but production really messed up on this one. It didn't work with Redemption Island, and Edge of Extinction was even worse. I hope they finally learn.

I thought for sure there was no chance anyone who returned would win, and if it did happen, that I'd be pissed, but I'm actually so shocked yet ecstatic with how this season played out! Chris was one of my favorites at the start and I was sad when he was blindsided, so seeing him get redemption was the story I never knew I needed. What an epic conclusion. Some people are going to hate, but personally, I loved it. Really great, fun, inspiring season overall!

For those saying “this isn’t the original idea of survivor, twists suck”; if we used the original format or Survivor, there would be no idols (introduced in season 11) and no tribe swaps (introduced in season 3) The game is different every season, Survivor is about adapting to the circumstances thrown at you. Nick Forget 1) The difference was Rick was in the merge, and he still didn’t really deserve it. 2) Chris had many, many, many, advantages to his undeserved win. How the hell can you adapt to the game if the person knows who’s winning, who’s a threat, who has an idol, etc. And on top of that, he got to bond with the jury for 20+ days. How would that be fair for the finalists.

Good season, terrible end. He had an incredibly unfair advantage - the twist basically encourages people to get voted out so they don’t have to deal with the daily stress and turmoil of actually having to make moves, instead just chilling on an island with the entire jury for 30 days. Any move that Gavin or Julie could’ve made didn’t matter - it never mattered since they were sitting next to chris. The twist had some good moments, but it ultimately led to a horrible end for a season. His one big move at the end does not supersede all the moves that gavin or julie made in their continuous 39 days in the game. The whole point of survivor is to sit in front of a jury of people you have betrayed - Chris didn’t have to do that. The jury 100% must’ve been on crack

I don’t think that Chris winning should define the entire season. I mean, this season wasn’t “Bad” per say. Some amazing players, pretty aggressive gameplay, an amazing soundtrack, a twist that was rather neat in both concept and execution, etc. I don’t think this season should be defined as a bad season at all, and if the focus is taken off of the finale, then I think that the season as a whole was good

Another big reason this season goes down as the worst ever (at least for me) is because of the editing. The first half of the season was all about the four returning players, then it became the Devens and Chris show. Got almost nothing from Gavin, Victoria, Julie, or even Lauren. Disagree. He sat on an island befriended all of the cast offs. Got back in and was given a free idol. The beauty of survivor is the people you have a hand in voting out get to make the ultimate decision at the end. So you have to vote people out but try not to piss them off. Chris basically got to side step all of that. Never had to vote people out and make hard decisions that could anger people. He was rewarded for getting booted 3rd.

Did anyone notice how they didn't show any confessionals for the final vote? In the past they only did this if the vote was unanimous. When it got to the live reading, I was certain that the first vote that Probst pulled out would be whom everybody voted for. So, when I saw the first vote for Gavin, I was like, "It's over." Then, the second vote was for Chris, and I was ecstatic. So much drama with 13 votes to read. Well done producers!

On one hand, I kind of like that the winner came from the Edge of Extinction so the titular feature of this season made sense but on the other hand it feels like a kind of waste of time that the season follows the players that are still on the game for most of the time if the actual action was occurring at the Edge of Extinction.

I honestly feel like edge of extinction gave Chris an advantage with the jury- especially with the first 10 or 11, they had been on the edge longer than recent jurors like Devens or Lauren and so those people had a better understanding of the trials and tribulation Chris went through in order to get to the final three after being on the edge for so long, so the jury could have been more sympathetic to that.

Probably true, but Chris also got a jury vote from Victoria, one of the smartest players of this Survivor era and decidedly anti-twist and anti-advantage. That speaks to the quality of his game during the last few days.

Dino Hall i disagree, this seasons editing was horrendous we barley got any personal contents on the players and the editing was so awful that legit only Kelly and Rick had over 30 cfs. On top of that great players like Gavin and Victoria had less cfs then Aubry who was the fucking 5th boot like thats awful. Also the twist legit ruined the concept of survivor. Chris came back knowing the jurys exact thoughts thats the only reason that he was able to set himself up to win cause he knew every little thing the jury was thinking. And the fact that Chris only played 12 total days of survivor easily makes him the worst winner of all time. Gavin played an incredible social and strategic game and its a shame that a clown like Chris is a survivor winner. Even his gameplay in 3 days wasnt that good he got handed a free idol and risked his own game at the fucking final 4 like thats risky and stupid gameplay

I agree that he isn't great, and he shouldn't have been given an idol, but on the other hand, it was foolish of Devens to give him back the other half of the idol with only 2 Tribals left to boot him, which speaks to the acumen of Chris's decision to give Devens the other half of the idol when he couldn't use it. Yes, Chris got a chance to bond with the jury. You know who else did? EVERYONE! The jury consists of players who were in the game before being voted off; Gavin and Julie had more time to bond with many jury members, like Ron and Victoria, than Chris. Also, it says something that Victoria, one of the smartest players of the 30s seasons who told Entertainment Weekly she doesn't like idols and twists, voted for Chris over her closest ally after NOT bonding with him whatsoever. While Gavin and Julie rode coattails all seasons and were effective goats, Chris built and pitched a resume by flushing Lauren's idol so he could take her out next vote (she had friends on the jury and was behind many strategic decisions) and taking out the biggest threat in the game by taking a calculated gamble. He also deliberately held back in the first two challenges after re-entering the game so he wouldn't be viewed as a physical threat like pre-merge. Is he great? No. Did he play the best game possible in 3 days? Yes.
