The world is full of noise and those that are the loudest are the ones we tend to follow but what about the quiet ones?
Author Susan Cain shines a spotlight on introverts and reveals how over time our society has come to look to extroverts as leaders. Not suggesting that one is better than the other, Susan argues that the world needs an equal space between introverts and extroverts; that an innovative, creative world wouldn't be the same without the two coming together.
Speaker: Susan Cain

Director: Jim Batt

Your art is incredible not just because of the style, but because of how cleverly you can portray the meaning behind it. Like the lunar cycle where the last moon is an apple, basically a visual way of saying the apple was the result of a lot of time. You also managed to make a dog look like Steve Jobs, earned a sub :)

This is fantastic! On the subject of introverts, though, I find that we tend to forget that introverts can be outgoing individuals as well as solitary individuals. The loud voices might be introverts too.

I was introverted and worked my way up. Now I look as being extroverted, even though I'm still shy. I gained in confidence by going towards people and asking them questions about themselves. People love to talk about what they're doing in general, so if you listen to them they tend to like you more and remember your name. You all fellow introverts should try this progressively, first with people close to you then work your way up with friends, colleagues, cashiers, policemen and whatnot.

I am this way as well. In a group I have no problem speaking up and being heard and lots of people think that I'm an extrovert because of this. This only happens after I am comfortable in a situation and have sat back and observed everyone first. Afterwards I have to be by myself, but sometimes I feel like I just need to be around other people. I'm on the fence and go either way sometimes, but I still have problems promoting myself.

The best teams being a combination of introverts & extroverts I believe is very true. I (the introvert) have been married to an extrovert for 20 years and I think we make an excellent team. We are like yin & yang. She handles many things that I am not very good at and vice versa. We both have different but great ideas to contribute to every conversation and challenge. Last year I started a new job and the guy I'm teamed up with is as big an extrovert as I am introvert and we are the best team in the company. We get more stuff done than any other group there.

This is great and to the point. I love the relationship of the two, rather than down with one and up with the other. Apple is a great example of that.

Absolutely I agree with you a 100%. Today, especially in my industry (Finance, Banking, Economics etc), there is such a huge premium on people that can sell/present themselves to clients and potential employers. Although some corporations have started moving towards a more balanced approach, I agree with you that the true value of introverts in many industries need more exposure.

OMG, this explains my situation perfectly. I would describe myself as an introvert outside but an extrovert inside. In social situations I'm usually that person that always keeps to myself and is quiet but at home or to my friends I'm this wild, crazy person. I really hate when people call me shy, because I feel like people commonly associate shy with weak, powerless, inadequate. If only they knew what us introverts are capable of.. sigh. I also believe I have an inferiority complex where I tend to not be able to talk to people who, in my mind are more popular, more powerful (status-wise) and it really sucks because those are the people who typically think I'm shy.. ugh, it can be so frustrating sometimes. i just wish everyone saw this video.

The art is amazing in this! and such a great way to really show the both sides of introvert and extrovert, but mainly on how valuable introverts really are, since people expects everyone to be this outright loud and confident person as the idea one to choose.

I see this as another short burst of information like that of TED-ED. I'm not really comparing the two but they are similar in that they offer shorts videos of highly dense information that is thought provoking. I still love watching the more longer videos but every now and then I just enjoy something like this.

The boardroom example is wildly generalized, as is the book references. Many of the most successful people in history were introverts; but don't try to convince a hipster that their discovery of something obvious was not their original idea.

Most people would consider me an extrovert when dealing with people but I also have an introvert side. I like time to myself and enjoy just being quiet and still and pondering deeper things. I can say this...when a quiet normally introverted person speaks I perk up and listen...because usually what they speak has great substance and wisdom. Some people just are so comfortable and confident they do not need to be the center of attention and these people have great power. We do need both.

I never made them synonyms, I used them as a simile. And not always, Narcissists feel good about themselves and that's a bad thing, while Realists might feel bad about their actions in life, and that's not a bad thing. Feeling like you're doing poorly and overcoming that situation is a healthy and confidence boosting experience. It's so important that it is part of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

There is a correlation between talking less and learning more. It takes longer to learn when your knee jerk reaction is to fire off at the mouth. Learning is done through listening, literally, and figuratively.

Its not only the extremes, where at the continuum-spectrum we are placed (introvert - ambivert - extrovert) that matters on, or influence our traits (being outspoken or not). Another aspect that comes in role with our traits, are also whether we are left-sided brain-dominant, right-sided or bilateral. So youre trait of being outspoken and able to speak to large groups, is just as likely a matter of you being left-sided braindominant. A left-sided extreme introvert can also talk to large groups.

Funny, I always thought it was the other way around with the two Steves. I never even heard of Steve Jobs until the 2000s; it was Wozniak I always associated with Apple since he was the only one I would ever see in news reports, talk shows, and public appearances, and he always sounded excited. Jobs, by contrast, has always seemed quiet, and content to stay in the background, until relatively recently.

I totally agree with your assessment, but... I came across an article in a magazine that recommended being suspicious of hiring people that are not using their social network to find a job: my corporate social network is small. Being an introvert the only social interaction I tend to get is with those I am directly solving a problem for. I agree that a balance is required, I am seeking means of convincing extroverts of introvert value. (as a means of self-preservation)
