Susan has a lovely tuneful voice. The crowd drinking & smoking made me laugh.

Singing like an angel, in a room filled with cigarette smoke. Amazing.

How gorgeous is she! I always thought she was American when I was kid. I was amazed when I found out she's actually British lol.

Such a beautiful soprano voice. I feel terrible for her having to sing in that smoke-infested place!

Interesting. My mother loved Mary Small and Vera Lynn and then it happened.......Lana Cantrell, simply the best (well, there is Whitney Houston), and while my mother is dead now, she nor I have ever heard of this woman but I must admit, she's really good. I wonder what my mom would have thought BEFORE Lana. I have been enjoying her videos. And (sorry Lana) but she reminds me a bit of you!!! I love class in music and culture and as one said below, "the good old days". Absolutely.

This is from a TV show called "Stars and Garters" for which the studio set was a fictional London pub.

+Keith Smith Thanks for clarifying that I thought it was something like that. Miss Maughan is wonderful can't say the same for the set though. I am sure you will agree.

Dam it was fictional but they were still smoking cigarettes 🤦🏻♂️

Prob most singers got lung cancer , if played in small places a lot in that era. Cigs were compulsory , by the look of it. ( My parents of that era, & they same ).

You'll often find that many singers smoke because it can help make a singing voice even better, which could be why even Enrico Caruso did it.

Good song, but Jeez - the settings ???
@davexnet10 жыл бұрын
Agreed - but it was the mid 60's, it was an ITV show and they liked to appeal to the working class. Set in a pub setting, I read that the TV channel even provided free cigarettes. The early 70's gave us the Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club (also ITV) with it's similar working mans club backdrop. By the end of the 70's, The UK was changing, and this kind of programming became unfashionable.

This was her mistake. She failed to change with the times.

Yeah, she should have hired the Beatles as her back up band!🤣
@CrankCase084 жыл бұрын
@@billmulvihill8452 The Beatles were a bigger act than her by this time. 'Make Him Mine' could have been a promising start in a new direction, but she didn't sustain it.
@billmulvihill84524 жыл бұрын
CrankCase08 I agree, but the tsunami wiped out almost all of the girl groups and individual singers. “Make Him Mine” was her greatest moment. Funny thing she appeared on the same show as the Beatles and was friends with them.

@@CrankCase08 The Beatles were a bigger act than anyone by this time!
@CrankCase08 Жыл бұрын
@@YorkyOne Indeed so, but female singers who adapted to the times had continued success, such as Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey. I remember as a kid in the 1960s hearing Susan Maughan singing dated garbage on 'Workers' Playtime'.
