Sarandon is fantastic, obviously, but Bette Davis looks like she's having a lot more fun doing that number. What a pro she was.

I think it was for the purpose of the serie that Sarandon looks a bit bored... It was in her character from the pilot...

I love how the movie was a thriller/horror for its time, while this song is so uplifting. I also love this mashup. Especially keeping the ending where Davis continues to dance. It shows to me, she really liked that song. I do, too.

Susan was cast well as Bette Davis! Wow Bette could not only act, but also posessed great musical and showmanship talent with a great sense of humor. She also could speak fluent French. She had French heritage from her mother's side. Go Bette!

That was great editing. Feud is a terrific show. Up until this show, I had only known what I saw on Mommie Dearest. Joan's rep was trashed by that film since it's release until 2017. I'm 40 and I want to thank Feud for giving me a better insight to these two Hollywood golden era legends. I loved the seen when Joan is shooting TROG. The Doors song "The End" was absolute perfection. I wish they would replay Feud over the summer. A lot of people I talk to missed the show and didn't realize it was on. Sigh....

Not sure if has been mentioned as of yet, but the music of this song is actually heard in WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? on the radio of the teenage neighbor (played by Bette's daughter, B.D. Merrill). I believe the lyrics weren't heard before this appearance "The Andy Williams Show".

I think she (Rhea) means her playing different roles in the upcoming new Feud(s) when this one Bette and Joan ends it is only set for 8 episodes. This is what Ryan Murphy is known for making a new installation keeping the name the same, reusing actors and having a completely different scripts. Just look at how may AHS there are to date!

Actually, she went on Carson plugging her CD, irritated that nobody would publicize it. She said, with energy, she was going to prove everybody wrong when it became a smash hit (close if not her exact words). I then went on the web and looked for "Bette Davis singing" and found this clip (without Sarandon). Couldn't believe it. I don't know if she needed the bucks or not, but judging from the Carson appearance I could see she really BELIEVED she could sing! And who was going to say no to Bette Davis? Andy Williams and Johnny Carson didn't!

This is perfect. Wow! Bette really had a great sense of humor and intelligence; it comes forth in everything she did. Ms. Sarandon is absolutely gorgeous and having fun (I believe) in her own way by commenting on the original William's broadcast. I've always felt Bette had an incredibly musical speaking voice, which must make her fun to imitate. No one can sing "I've Written a Letter to Daddy" as well, and I relish her, albeit brief, version of "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" in Dead Ringer. She was definitely a talented and courageous original; there will never be another.

What I'm finding interesting in the show so far is that, next to Joan Crawford, Bette Davis is portrayed as being pretty grounded and even-tempered. I would have imagined Bette as this really hardcore bitch who'd just be handing people their asses all the time. But maybe that was more her screen persona than her actual personality.
@HannahUK3595
@HannahUK3595 7 жыл бұрын
Bette was a force to be reckoned with but she admitted this herself, she was professional and couldn't handle people not taking it seriously, that's when she became the force. The men in Hollywood were never labeled difficult when they complained, just strong willed, women not so much, they were expected to put up whatever they were told to do, Bette wouldn't do that, so she was branded a 'bitch' She also was not concerned with vanity or looking good, she was willing to play unsympathetic and evil characters, to not always be beaitiful and glamerous, in fact she shaved her head to play Queen Elizabeth I in the thirties, she had respect for the profession of acting, which is understandable, being a stage actress first. Joan was the ultimate movie star, she always looked done up, perfect hair and make up. The experiences of loss and not feeling wanted when she was a child made her live her life in a way that if wanted something she better get it or someone else will i.e. men, parts, directors and the way she secured these things was usually with sex. Bette wasn't willing to do that. She wanted to be respected for her talent. Even Jack L. Warner says to Joan in ths episode "Bette can act rings around you but your ass is nice and your tits don't sag" This perfectly sums up the attitudes towards female starrs of a certain age at that time, yes Bette was a great actress but Joan was better to look at and willing to lie down and be good for the big macho director and studio men, in other words, easy to control and less risk. I think it's safe to say that Bette probably would have been willing to let bygones be bygones if the whole Oscar thing didn't happen, that's episode five coming up, Joan helf some sort of belief that Bette was out to get her, this was encouraged by people like Warner and Hedda Hopper, who it's clear to see here is using her to scoops, she was a brilliant and ruthless journalist and a powerful woman but was also a nasty piece of work a lot of the time. Bette certainly had her issues to. She had to be the best perfomer, she had to out act those around her because she needed to prove to herself that she was good. It was never enough to good, she had to be the best. It was a shame that they couldn't see past all this to see how similar they both were but hey, that's Hollywood.

From what I've read about her she was quite sensitive and had trust issues. If you're interested there's a fascinating vanity fair article by agent/movie producer William Frye about his friendship with Bette Davis. It was from a few years ago but references Hedder Hopper, Joan Crawford, Olivia De Haviland among others. It was actual quite a sad read.
