Thank you. Raw veggies and the like aside, raw fish is sashimi (which not all sushi has, and not all sashimi is part of sushi), and it's good to let people know about that misconception that sushi = raw fish. I dunno how Emmy made this mistake having lived in Japan as long as she did, and it does a disservice to her audience (especially people who might be afraid of trying sushi because they think it's all raw fish). Heck, kappa maki is one of the most traditional kinds of sushi you can get, and it doesn't have any fish at all.

The first time I was introduced to Sushi Bake was during my vacation in Hawaii to visit friends and family. I totally got hooked to the taste. imitation crab got boring after awhile so I switch to real crab. I also made other variations like salmon for protein. I also made other variations using other rice seasoning like salmon fumi furikake, seto fumi furikake, and noritamago furikake. This dish got me so hooked. I also made one with inspiration from gyudon but the shape of sushi bake. I seasoned the rice with sesame oil and sesame seed, a thin layer of sauce (Sriracha, mayo, and vinegar), then topped with the sweet beef topping.

Hi, Emmy. I'm from Manila, PH, and I've made sushi bake a couple of times. In one of my recipes, I made a California maki sushi bake because the Philippines has the best ripe mangoes in the world. Slices or chunks of that go on top, while the salad mix is made of a combination of kani and cucumber. Another recipe had avocados in it, as you suggested in your video. This is pretty awesome dish that is very trendy here. Of course, anyone can just use canned tuna and kani with a lot of kewpie mayo. That works as well, with different variants of the furikake, tobiko or ebiko as toppings.

I will be making this tonight!! Love love love that you cooked it in a toaster oven. That is what I too have as an oven, so love seeing videos where people utilize it so I know it can be done. Thank you again for such wonderful videos!

Try cutting nori into “chips” maybe that would work? No idea, it seems to dense actually.

Hi Emmy. I'm from Hawaii and have never seen a baked type sushi, but I have seen sushi pressed into a pan with the rice on the bottom and top with colored shrimp flakes and canned tuna in the middle. It's pressed down so that when you cut it into squares or small rectangles, the sushi stays together and is eaten at family parties/picnics. But love the idea of eating it with a piece of nori. I definitely want to try it out.

Funny that every video about cooking rice, my mind always goes back to the thoughts of "finger, you cook rice you use finger." Love your videos ❤

I wish we could get masago here where I live. I would also like mentaiko. But we're so far from anything that it will never happen. I bet mentaiko would be good in that sushi bake, especially if you'd like to spice it up a bit.

This may sound blasphemous but I really wanna put that sushi bake on some nachos or a pizza crust 🤔

This reminds me of flaming sushi rolls I've had. Essentially, they wrapped the roll in aluminum foil, then put it on a metal stand with a basin filled with some sort of spirit. They lit it on fire, then you're supposed to let the fire burn out and warm the sushi gently. It was to DIE for, probably one of the best rolls I've ever had. I'd love to see you give that a shot, lol.

Emmy should try Hot Roll, it’s a popular sushi roll in Brazil - usually a regular salmon roll with some cream cheese in the filling, breaded with panko and deep fried. The cream cheese warms up a bit and adds some creaminess, and the salmon doesn’t get cooked all the way so it still tastes fresh. It’s so popular sometimes I would see it being sold in events to be eaten whole, like a pastry, instead of sliced pieces.

We made this because it sounded so bizarre. We had to make a second batch because it was SOOO good! However, Nobody liked it warm. Doubling the fish roe added a lot of 'pop', and using precut bite sized pieces of Korean baked nori was delicious and made it easy to serve!

I bought a zojirushi rice cooker and a 25 lbs bag of rice and I’m literally saving so much money by having access to this high quality rice. The zojirushi does an incredible job and so versatile as the rice can be kept warm all through the day making meals and meal prep so much easier. One of the best kitchen appliances, it will have a permanent place on my countertop. The rice tastes better and is perfect every time.

Loved watching this video in your soothing, calming voice! I enjoyed this sushi bake segment a lot and will make it since it’s super easy. I will be adding some slices of avocado and will drizzle the kewpie mayo and a sushi sauce for final topping! Yummers!
