I've been working for a financial company in Canada for many years and I must say the office culture in England is very much the same as here and the US. Very informative video and highly recommended.

Thank you for this video! After working in UK for over 17 years. This video can still teach me valuable things. And good for your sister! What her manager said is shocking and not the British working culture I know of.
Love your content. Suggestion for 16:40. 'Does anyone have any concerns?' and 'Are there any...' usually invite a 'yes or no' answer, those not inclined to speak usually won't respond. Although well intended, will mostly get head shakes all around (depending on the workplace culture of course).

Hi Susie, thanks for the video, I have learned a lot. One small question though, when people speak in indirect communication style, are they genuinely open to all answers, or are they just looking for consensus? For example, when one said, 'would you be able to complete it by today' or 'do you think it would be alright to reschedule the meeting', are those negotiable?

Very useful video! Work culture varies hugely between organisations though. Government funded organisations in particular (eg.NHS), could be incredibly bureaucratic.
Super commercial. Most people want to win via proving their smart and right. Some focus on theirselves more which is the same only thing maters in the end.😁😉

I would say it is not the matter of result orientated nor complying with the procedure but their careless and negligence when working. They can repeat doing wrong on simple things, for example your name, your address etc.

I suppose if you speak more English when teaching English seems much better. Explaining more in English rather than Mandarin could probably create a better linguistic context for learners, at the same time, Chinese can be displayed as subtitles.
但我的一個uk同事叫我不要用could would,會顯得很命令式,說can will比較好….我一直以為could would 是比較有禮貌的說法耶。

I agree with you. In Chinese culture, results are more important. In UK often people follow rules to cover themselves instead of trying to be innovative
The story of your sister is quitely normal among working culture of asia companies but most of us would follow the advice from manager if we don't want to be sacrified during annual performance review. 😥
