你的報告一開頭來個 The accident happened on ....

It depends of course. The amount of speaking and talking differ a lot when we compare a sales person to a lorry driver or a teacher to an electrician. But in general, more natural real-life English can definitely help to make local friends and thus very helpful to understand life in the UK. That's why I'm particularly interested in any casual chat with lots of slang words and a variety of different accents. Most of us couldn't learn these at schools.

I think our English levels have to be satisfactory to work in Great Britain, as we also need to pass the IELTS for applying to some universities. Also, it sounds informative to know the skills in the workplace of Great Britain.

Very relevant topic Susie. Business English sometimes doesn’t sound all that business-like. I once made a comment to a European team: “Don’t let them pull a fast one on you. Just stay in your lane and make sure you have all your ducks in a row before pulling the trigger.” Then it dawned on me they had no idea what I’d just said. But it wasn’t any different than when I met a group of guys from Newcastle another time. While I do okay with people from Southern England I am totally inept with the northern accents and I felt like a complete idiot. I would also imagine pronunciation might be high on the list if you want to work in the medical field. Words like meningopneumonitis, remimazolam, triamcinolone etc are all tongue twisters to me.

The British accent we typically hear in the States tends to be southern English which I think is elegant, soothing, and pleasant to the ear. But outside of that, even some London accents can be challenging. And it becomes a crap shoot the further north I go.

I found ppl from South America learning English much quicker than the Chinese. A classmate I used to know was from Brazil, he learned English for just 2 years, and can speak fluently already, while for Chinese students, they learn English from kingdergarden, yet still won't be able to speak confidently and smoothly. What do you think the problems maybe? Is it just the similar culture background to Brazilian and English-speaking countries or our way to learn English is having efficiency issue?

intentionally deliberately purposefully premeditatedly。

It's NOT in my knowledge。 😅

Susie: Over Simplified. 😃
