Imagine you do something productive for a living like growing potatoes. Now you sell those potatoes for the cost it took you to grow them. You’ve already paid for growing them, but you are not “money-making”. If you sell them for more than the investment it took for you to grow them, you are turning a profit. Hence “money-making”. Nobody is suggesting that a profit be generated from such circumstances.

This is just my view on it, but stopping a pursuit because of the risk the police may introduce to the public could mean the dangerous rider will believe they think they are getting away and can afford to drive safer once they believe they are out of sight. Doesn't mean they will but overall risk will decrease.

I now live in Leeds and the police are that poor here, we regularly see this and the kids wear balaclavas no helmets 90% of the time! Seen 3 drunks shoplift in Farmfoods here in Seacroft, and 2 police watch them! They didn’t react as the shop staff said they were doing their shopping and were supposed to be a different part of the city! Ye couldn’t write this, worst policed city I have ever seen.

Dudley isn't much better. I've had 3 motorbikes stolen, given a crime number and that was it for each one. I'd imagine it's similar throughout the UK, the televised stuff are exceptions to this, merely giving the impression of better policing

Always used to be, you could carry a pillion on L plates if the pillion had a full motorcycle licence, used to do it all the time back in the 90s, we did get stopped a lot for it though, don't know if you still can....

The kids on the bike can't really be fixed in a simple manner. If you don't chase them then you save on helicopter budgets but of course this tells the kids they can do exactly whatever they want. And let's face it, these kids are likely being brought up in dysfunctional and abusive households, they are just doing stuff until someone takes notice, if a little joyriding gets ignored then it will only escalate from there. You can't just ram them off the road, for one it runs the risk of killing innocent members of the public who are just on their way to the shops or school or whatever. For two, after you ram them you then need to send them to hospital and fix them up. Unless we are at the point where the people in the comments think slitting their throats would be a sensible thing to do (seriously I hope you aren't that far gone). So if you do nothing, it's dangerous with poor outcomes, if you chase them it's dangerous with poor outcomes. Even after you do catch them, so what. What kind of punishment do we have on offer? A lot of people are complaining they will get a slap on the wrist. As in they will learn nothing. But what punishment would they learn from? They have nothing, they have no expectations of a stable life, they don't live in a world with aspirations like that. They can do time, but that isn't cheap, and are they learning much? Again, no punishment leads to poor outcomes and punishment leads to poor outcomes. Fact is that the whole society we live in is messed up and this kind of behaviour is the evidence of that fact. Just take a read of the comments. Full of authoritatively written but simple minded 'advice'. 'Fixing' the country is not simple, there aren't simple answers.

Chopper can stay in the air for up to 2 hours. And they can prepare a second helicopter to take over the pursuit if the 1st had to refuel. It does cost a lot to run but a criminal causing a serious crash or fatality will cost the taxpayer well over £1million in insurance costs alone.

I've dealt with one bad cop who didn't care about the situation they were called to deal with, even though they had a recording of death threats yelled at my then-GF (she was on the phone with them and the woman heard them, so they were recorded.) So the cop said "Your word against theirs. Every other situation they were called for, they honestly had nothing to go on other than damage to windows in the night. No idea who it was. Just kids in the local area. They were clearly apologetic they couldn't help. That situation was like 3-4 times. Basically, this guy feels all cops are like the first one. Not the other 3-4 .
