How to set up an M-Audio SP 2 sustain pedal in Komplete Kontrol and which MIDI values you should use and why.

PART 2: What's happening in MIDI when using a sustain pedal using Midi-OX software.
In my case, I am using the M-Audio SP 2 pedal on an S88 Mk2 keyboard which has both a Pedal A and Pedal B option. This is why you see both options in the software.
This is my second attempt at creating a tutorial on this after noticing some problems with my first setup. Please let me know if I have got anything wrong or if other sustain or damper pedals work differently to this model.

I agree with everyone else here . . your video was perfect! I spent an hour trying to figure out why my Roland DP10 sustain pedal on the S88 Mk2 keyboard had suddenly changed polarity. I hadn't made an changes. It had been working perfectly for months. Then suddenly, it was the reverse polarity. Your video saved me a lot of heartache. Thank you!

This was great, thanks, been searching for "piano playing technique pedals corda" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Danilliam Illustrious Dominance - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Nice! Enjoy. The keyboard is beautiful to play, even for a less skilled player such as myself. You can so quickly get sucked into playing because it reacts and responds just as you want when you touch or hit the keys. Hard to describe.

Hi, I wonder if you could give me some advice. I'm trying to use sustain in kontakt without a pedal, which I've worked out how to simply turn on and off, but while it's turned on the notes are sustained for way too long. Is there a way to adjust this to get it sounding a little better?

Have you tried the sustain pedal with the Noire Felt? Something special happens even with default pedal settings in Noire.

You mentioned in your video that the sustain does have a sound of its own. It is a nice addition but I am looking for a way to mute that function. Do you know if there is a way to have the sustain pedal working while having the small sound turned off? It occasionally gets in the way when I am looking for something more clean. Great video.

Great video. Question: How do I isolate sustain in Ableton on one instrument when using keysplit? So for instance in Ableton I have1 track with 2 instruments (piano and flute) using keysplit and I only want to use my sustainPEDAL for the piano.

Update - I ended up having to setup both Tip and Ring as Ctrl Change with Tip = Number 64 and Ring = Number 65 which got the pedal to start working but inverted. This meant the sustain was automatically on when not pressed and off when pressed. When I went back to Komplete Kontrol, I found a setting for Invert in Pedal B which oddly enough, fixed it. I'm a tad confused how I got it to work since the pedal is only plugged into Pedal A and it's the same M Audio pedal you have. I guess for now it works and I know enough to fiddle around with it if I ever run into the issue again.

Hey YDCat Great Thanks for the how to do. I had to sidechain your video (my KK window had no MIDI icon) for further help on that issue - but easily solved by getting KK from my applications and then attach the pedal to the keyboard, and Boom! up popped the MIDI icon on the KK window. Then back you your tip and now pedal is working - thank you

As I was typing my search into Google I was thinking, 'nobody will have had exactly the same problem as me...' :-D Thanks so much for posting and sharing the fix! Weirdly, the sustain worked initially and then the MIDI stopped showing up in my DAW. Maybe after an update? I actually opened up the pedal box to check the switches with a meter but it all seemed fine. Well done! 👍

I just got the Komplete Kontrol S49 and was trying to find out how to get the pedal to work and glad you did up video on this. Never had a keyboard where you had to set up the sustain pedal and I’ve owned a lot of keyboards. I have the exact same sustain pedal. Everything worked except for some reason I had to switch the number values for it to work. The opposite way it was sustaining without me pressing the pedal and then I had to press the pedal to unsustain it lol! So I put 127 in value off and 0 in On. Weirdly enough that fixed it. Just glad to have the sustain pedal working as I was having to make up the sustain with some reverb and delay the past 3 weeks. Thanks!

There are actually sustain pedals that support continuous but you need to refer to the manual of the pedal you have to know if its supported (Most have a TRS jack instead of TS jack) and how to set this up correctly these are mostly used for half-pedaling ... If somebody is using one of these I would Highly recommend to Calibrate it Also For those wanting use more Pedals that work as described in this video You can actually use an adapter cable that goes from one TRS Male Jack (Stereo) to two TS Female Jacks (Mono) The second pedal could than be configured in the Ring part of the Pedal setup menu (You might want to lookup what you can do in a Midi CC List and use that as Number) On the KK S MK2 Series you are actually able to to connect 4 of these pedals Also if you have a Maschine MK3 you can do the same trick to have a pedal for Play/Stop and Record Enable/Disable

Hey. I've followed the steps and everything is set up the same. My midi monitor is recognising the actions of the pedal and i have The Grandeur loaded but the sustain isn't working. My midi monitor (mac) says "From Port 1 Control 1 Portamento On/Off 127". Any ideas? Thanks

I so wanted this to work for my new S61 MK3 keyboard but my Komplete Kontrol software is version 3.2.1 and I cannot find any sustain pedal settings as you are showing in your video. I simply cannot understand why it should be so complicated (actually impossible thus far) to get a simple sustain pedal to work on a brand new Kontrol Keyboard.
