I hate diversity for sakes of it or ticking boxes but we have to open up slightly and remember tolkien and Dahl and other old writers did so in a different era of time with a different perception of life and if they were to write.those books today they'd probably be alot different AND more diverse. It's not like yhey made the elves speak pakistani or have a ghetto twang to them to bring in earthly culture. What are we supposed to do? Keep letting our kids clean chimneys and go down mines because back in the day it was like that so why change?.. meanwhile we tell every african and asian looking child (that were born in the West are Western) that they'll never be an elf because back when tolkien wrote this he based them on white folk only? Sure if he drew a specific elf to be white make that one white but if theres opportunity to included new characters theres free license to use non white actors too. We have to defend beloved characters but not rule out diversity where it isn't halming anything other than our stubborn nostalgia cravings.

I have just rewatched the interviews with Peter Jackson (w Charlies rose and the like) but you can just see the servitude and humility of the man who wanted to put tolkiens vision on screen. And such a attitude paid off immensely. The story and its backgrounds was already phenomenal. The current crew on rings of power lacks the servitude and humility. This has been the one point that I have the most gripe with. The whole concept of Good versus Evil has been turned upside down. Saurrron comes across as hard-working, humble, caring, sharing and worthy of the crown etc. not to mention the peace-loving Orcs who are tired of the war. Yeah, I'm on my family's Prime network, and I've never wanted to watch RoP- I stick to the far more entertaining reviews by Disparu, EFAP, Gary, and Drinker. I also successfully avoided Amazon's best efforts to force me to watch it. E.g. for s1 ep8 they made RoP fill up the whole front page of Prime with a large PLAY button, lol. I did accidentally put it in my watchlist while figuring out how to get off that screen to the other stuff, but at least I managed not to start it.

Oh my god, you continue on and on with Tom Bombadil. Of course he's not going to be the joyful buffoon that Tolkien established. Tolkien built an anomaly not just in Middle earth but in whole Arda with Bombadil, one that has left readers perplexed for decades. It's an amazing and wonderful gesture of the creator towards his literary creation, to add something that can subtlety mock his own work. That joke is a luxury you cannot replicate in a movie or in a show inspired by the primal narrative without risking the whole project. Therefore, this Bombadil needs to make sense into the world of Middle Earth (for the show and the movies), needs to reinforce verosimilitud, not raising unanswerable enigmas as the original one.

It's incredibly cringe that Amazon is pushing ships and making ship names/posts. That is something certain groups in fandoms do organically themselves. It just feels so weird to see a large corporation trying to tap into that corner of fandom culture in the most unsubtle way.
