Hey everybody welcome back to another episode of Muddy Reviews, in this video we are checking out the SUUNTO M9 Wrist compass review. These are a great bit of kit for Airsoft (large MILSIM events), Hiking, and military use.
I have had this Suunto M9 for a few years now and I love it. The compass is a small compact piece of kit and is fantastic for my MILSIM Airsoft folks especially my Impresionistas that like CAG kit. These are a mainstay of the GWOT JSOC kits during OIF and OEF.
The Suunto M9 is easy to use and is worth its little weight especially if you also run a GPS like the Garmin 401 or newer and want a good simple analog backup. I picked these M9s up from the Navy Exchange in Rota, Spain so I don't have a link to where I bought it but you can find these at REI and other retailers. A link for REI is here:
www.rei.com/product/408083/su...
You can also go to the Suunto website and find a dealer here:

I hope you got something out of this video and review and may have found a new piece of kit. As always folks get out there and play some Airsoft, LARP smarter, Not harder, and above all else take care.

I didn't get this exact one but I did get a wrist compass for my last milsim event and what I found is my AEG motor kept moving my needle. I had to move my gun away from my body a distance just to get an accurate reading. All well. Physics.

I knew this one looked familiar, no wonder I found this one on the Black Powder Red Earth kit (the one where it shows you the BCM MCMR 14.5” aka M4 CQB and the Glock 19, along with a Rōnin Tactics Senshi belt). This would be a great item to have, especially when navigating and still using actual maps, since digital GPS can’t always be reliable. Another vital piece of item to have is no other than a watch, preferably the G-Shock or any robust watch that can definitely take a lot of damage and still work on you. Thanks for giving this one a review, Muddy! 😊 I currently do own one and have used it for 10 years, sadly it’s not the Mudmaster one, still rocking the stock resin wrist bands which are already breaking off, gotta change them to a NATO strap, and the battery died about a year ago, and the gasket being completely busted. 😢 Talk about G-Shock being true and honest to their battery standards on how long they would last, precisely for 10 years, as my watch is still going strong up to this day, I just need to have a fresh CR1220 battery for it, as well as a brand new rubber gasket just to be safe on having it retain its water resistance capabilities.

Glad you liked the review and yeah man G-Shocks are great watches. I was issued G-Shocks and they are fantastic watches.

Same width as the original strap. It is around 20mm.

If you're in the southern hemisphere and considering the Suunto M-9 wrist compass, I'd advise against it. This model is specifically calibrated for the northern hemisphere, leading to performance issues near the equator and significant inaccuracies in the southern hemisphere. Specifically, the southern side of the compass disk drags along the bottom of its liquid-filled casing and fails to spin freely, particularly as you approach the south pole. Unfortunately, there are currently no manufacturers producing wrist-worn sighting compasses balanced for the southern hemisphere, as the majority of global demand is centered in the northern hemisphere. Therefore, this compass is only suitable for those planning to use it in the northern hemisphere.
